New signing Tom Eaves has certainly settled in well to his new environment at Yeovi judging by his two goals so far.

“I’ve settled in fine really. I obviously knew what to expect having been here before and everything has gone swimmingly.

“I’ve played in League Two before when I was at Bristol Rovers on loan so the transition has been no problem. Sometimes the pitches aren’t so good and that makes it more difficult but it will be a challenge and I’m looking forward to it.”

The 24 year old striker has certainly taken no time to make his presence felt with a belter of a goal against Bristol City in the recent pre-season match.

“I didn’t really think much about it to be honest. I just hit it as hard as I could.”

Tom’s second goal against Salisbury was every bit as clinical and it seems Bobby Charlton has had an influence on Tom’s scoring.

“I always remember what Bobby Charlton used to say about strikers and goals. Just hit them as hard as you possibly can.”

So tap-ins don’t appear to be on the Eaves agenda, as he points out there is a time and a place for finesse!

Having played five matches in ten days the pre-season had certainly been what was expected though.

“I knew what to expect when I arrived here and nobody was ever going to be in for an easy ride. It’s just about preparation now and doing things the right way.

“There were some great views down at Ninesprings but I think playing matches is the best way to get ready for a new season!

“On a scale of one to ten I feel I am on around a seven/eight right now, with a view to be ten by the start of the season proper.”

Tom who hails from Liverpool started his career at Oldham before moving on to Bolton where he started to make a name for himself.

“I had five years at Bolton under Owen Coyle and really didn’t play as many games as I would have liked but I’m here at Yeovil now and I find the atmosphere so different now to when I was last here.

“The Gaffer has got everybody thinking positively and I think we could be in for a really good season. There’s a different culture here now and everything is about promoting expression and having no fear and that’s great. We all want to be successful for him as a group.”

So as the season proper gets ever nearer there’s one striker who is certainly buzzing under the new Darren Way era.
