The Glovers knew a point against Stevenge at Huish Park would be enough to remain in the EFL for a 15th consecutive campaign and they duly delivered.

Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro opened the scoring with second goal of his loan spell just shy of the break before Josh McQuoid restored parity from close range in the second period to end the scoring.

The draw – Town’s 17th of the campaign – moved the Green and Whites two points ahead of their points haul last season and Way has already got one eye on where his side need to improve if they are to strive forward.

“We’ve had a few years of biting our fingernails but it’s nice to get the job done and over the line,” he told YTFC.net.

“There was a lot of responsibility on the players as there was always that element of doubt with us not being mathematically safe.

“The group never gave up and to have that attitude with the pressure we’re all under to maintain league football is a big achievement.

“We aimed for 50 points because it was important with the budget we had this year to get the club stable and in a healthy position. That was a massive achievement.

“I want more, the players want more – we thought before January we could’ve been successful but unfortunately we lost one or two key players and suffered the consequences of that.

He continued: “There wasn’t much between the two sides and I said that before the game. There wasn’t a gulf in quality even though they’ve perhaps gained a little more confidence with the position that they’ve been in.

“I thought overall we had the best chances but we’ve drawn another game. We’ve lost one less game than them.

“We know where the improvements have got to be made and I will do my best over the summer to get us back to being successful and climbing the table.

“This football club has a huge history of success and we’ve got to try to do everything we can to improve on the mistakes we’ve made this year, get off to a good start (next season) and also maintain it in the second part of the season.”

The club would like to thank the supporters for their fantastic efforts at Huish Park and on the road this season.
