Yeovil Town supporters last night had the opportunity to quiz the club’s chairman, directors and football management team as the  season reaches its final stages

A two-hour meeting in the boardroom, hosted by chairman John Fry, gave a group of  fans the chance to tackle a wide variety of issues that concern them, ranging from toilet facilities to ticket prices.

And they heard the views of acting manager Terry Skiverton and his assistant Darren Way, who continue to hope for a degree of success as the end of  season beckons.

A representative group of supporters, some of whom had been following the Glovers for decades,  put their views to the chairman and four of his directors and staff on issues that they felt were holding the club back in terms of boosting its image and attendances.

Poor conditions in car parks, toilets, the public address system, the bar housed in a marquee were all on the agenda.

Some fans felt many supporters were no longer coming because of the poor matchday experience.  

Mr Fry assured the fans their concerns would be taken seriously.

The chairman explained the financial constraints under which the club had to operate and how relegation from the championship had cost some £5million. He also explained how improved finances through the championship season and the Manchester United cup-tie had been invested in players.

As for the future the chairman alluded to plans for a Yeovil Town football academy enabling the club to draw on, and develop,  young players not just from Somerset but from surrounding counties.

Terry Skiverton spoke emotionally about how the championship season had been ‘like a dream’ to him. But he could not hide his disappointment at performances this season.

The acting manager said now the matchday experience at Huish Park had to be addressed on and off the field. “We must meet the demands,” he said, “and have a plan to go forward.” And he said that included bringing on ‘our own young players.’

“We have to re-build a football club,” he said, “ but we have all got to come together or we will finish up in the Conference.”

On the question of ticket prices for next season, commercial director Ron Budden said these would be announced in the next few days.
