The young forward signed on a season-long loan from Premier League side AFC Bournemouth in the summer, and appeared mainly off the bench at the beginning of the campaign.

However, the 19-year-old, who recently signed a new deal with the Cherries, has forced his way into the starting line-up following some good performances.

Bournemouth do have the option of a January recall on Surridge should they require his service but he wants to keep playing and progressing at Huish Park.

He told iFollow Glovers: “I’ve been learning new stuff every day here, every game with Terry (Skiverton) and the gaffer helping me a lot so I’m learning every day in training.

“I was training well but (Francois Zoko and Olufela Olomola) were doing well for the team. I wanted to be playing but the gaffer said it was going to be hard to break in and I accepted the challenge. Now I’ve got my place and I want to keep it.”

Surridge continued: “As far as I know I’m going to be here for the rest of the season and I want to be, the gaffer knows that.

“I’m playing every week, I’m learning, I’m developing and that’s the main thing.

“It’s down to Bournemouth with what they want to do with me. I’m just taking it game-by-game and if it happens it happens, but I don’t want to go back and I want to stay here.”

The Glovers take on Chesterfield in Sky Bet League Two action this weekend in Somerset.

Former loanee Sid Nelson is likely to be marking Surridge who is eagerly anticipating the contest.

“We all know what he’s like,” he said.

“It’ll be a good battle with Sid as we know what type of player he is and we’ll be ready.”

He added: “It’s a big game, a six-pointer. If we win we’ll pull away from the bottom and we want to look upwards starting with three points on Saturday.

“If we pull away from Barnet, Forest Green and Chesterfield then it relieves a lot of pressure.

“We’ve had some good performances recent;y and we’re looking forward to the next few games.”
