Joe Edwards believes Championship survival is still more than possible despite last weekend’s 4-1 defeat at home to fellow relegation candidates Barnsley.

The Glovers currently sit bottom of the second tier six points from safety, but midfielder Edwards states the players’ confidence hasn’t been knocked despite defeat last time out.

“We know there is still a lot to play for before the end of the season, seven games left and 21 points so it’s definitely still all to play for and the boys are confident we can go in to the next couple of games and get two good results and as long as we can keep our confidence up that will help a lot.

“Charlton winning was a disappointing result for us but we’ve got to play them and they’ve got a couple of hard games coming up, so as long as we do as much as we can between now and the end of the season we’ll just have to see where that takes us.

“Blackpool are still in our reach so it’s a massive game again; we’re going there full of confidence even after the result and we know we can go and put a good performance together and hopefully we can do that on Saturday and get the three points.”

In the reverse fixture at Huish Park back in December the Glovers came away 1-0 victors against 8-man Blackpool, who had three players sent off in the closing stages.

However, Edwards expects a completely different match at Bloomfield Road against the Seasiders who are now under new management, in the form of caretaker boss Barry Ferguson.

“It’s going to be a tough game; their pitch isn’t the greatest but it’s probably similar to ours down here. They’ll come at us early on because they like to get the first goal and then defend it so as long as we defend well and hopefully score ourselves, obviously we’ve got goal scorers like Luke Ayling at the moment, so that will help us along the way!

“The reverse fixture was a tough game and a big game and we needed to win that time and hopefully, there won’t be the sending offs like there was, but it will be that sort of performance and that sort of result.”
