Cyclists wishing to tackle a Yeovil Town charity challenge ahead of their last home game of the season have more time to sign up!

The Glovers entertain Crewe Alexandra on Saturday, April 20 and 100 keen fans will take to the saddle to cover the 200-mile trip from Alex’s Gresty Road home to Huish Park in the three days leading up to the clash.

Get Pedalling 2013 will see riders raise funds for the Yeovil Town Community Sports Trust, St Margaret’s Hospice and Prostate Cancer UK.

However, the cut-off date for entrants has been extended, meaning those wishing to join those already signed-up still have time to join in.

Western Gazette Sports Editor Chris Sweet is one of the cyclists involved thanks to backing from Crewkerne company Cyclelife.

Glovers’ chief executive Martyn Starnes said: “Arrangements are advancing at a pace and unfortunately we will have to stop accepting applications at the end of the week.

“The uptake has been impressive as cyclists of all abilities look to get involved in a truly remarkable event. However, time is running out to submit your form so please make sure you don’t miss out

“Our thanks also goes to those who have donated. We have already raised a superb sum of money with the challenge approximately two months away and all support is greatly appreciated.”

The Community Sports Trust delivers a wide range of sports related initiatives across Somerset and Dorset, using the power of football and sport to engage individuals and to have a positive impact on the lives of thousands of young people each year.

St Margaret’s Hospice in Yeovil provides specialist palliative care, advice, support and respite to patients and their families living in Somerset and parts of neighbouring counties.

Their care is available for those who have a terminal or life-limiting illness such as cancer, motor neurone disease and chronic lung disease. Prostate Cancer UK – formerly The Prostate Cancer Charity – supports male sufferers, funds research and raises awareness about the disease.
