Yeovil Town fans can finally wake from their enforced slumber as the International break has ended and it is full steam ahead in the club’s Championship campaign.
This Saturday, the Sat Nav is set for Sheffield again, not for United this time, but for the blue half, Sheffield Wednesday.
The two sides go into the game straddling the relegation zone in the second tier, Wednesday sit 21st and Yeovil 22nd.
Both sides are still sat on just 3 points. Yeovil’s win came on the opening day of the season away at Millwall whilst Sheffield Wednesday are yet to notch a victory, gaining their points from three draws.
Since the last set of fixtures, not only have players had an international break to contend with, but there has also been the small matter of Transfer Deadline Day.
Owls manager Dave Jones waited until the re-opening of the loan window to secure his latest signing. Wolves defender Roger Johnson has joined on loan and could make his debut on Saturday.
Yeovil were probably the more active of the two sides, securing former defender Liam Fontaine on loan whilst Alan Tate returned to Swansea to have treatment on an injury.
Tate joins Marek Stech and Nathan Ralph on the injury list, however in slightly better news Paddy Madden begun training and running this week.
Saturday may come too soon for the Irish international but the road to recovery has light at the end of the tunnel.
Wednesday’s only real activity on deadline day was to send defender Martin Taylor out on loan to League One outfit, Brentford.
For most of the Yeovil squad the international break was a chance to unwind and recharge the batteries; however two members of the team were called up to represent their country.
It didn’t quite go to plan for both Madden, whose injury kept him from playing for the Republic of Ireland and Wayne Hennessey who was on the bench for both of Wales’ World Cup qualifying defeats.
Since being back in training Yeovil have had a behind-closed-doors friendly against Bournemouth to remove any rustiness in the limbs. The game ended in a 5-0 Yeovil win with goals from Joe Jones, Michael Ngoo, Sam Hoskins, Kieffer Moore and an own goal.
Yeovil’s last two league games were against sides who haven’t met the Glovers in competitive circles before, but that is not the case with Sheffield Wednesday.
For two seasons the sides crossed paths in League One and the head to head doesn’t make pretty reading for Yeovil fans.
The Glovers have never beaten The Owls – three defeats and a single draw since 2010. Of course, those fixtures have not been without incident; a certain Kieran Agard goal in one of the home fixtures got the heart racing. Agard slotted home into an empty net after the Wednesday keeper had clashed with a defender when receiving a drop ball kicked back to the visiting ‘keeper.
But I think we’ve had enough of that kind of drama for one season.
The single draw between the two sides was also a frenetic affair in January 2011. Yeovil held onto a 2-2 draw after seeing two men sent off by Trevor Kettle.
Luke Ayling and Adam Virgo saw red before Giles Coke missed a retaken penalty (having scored the original). The Glovers were thankful to a goalkeeping master class from loanee Stephen Henderson and a makeshift defence that ended up including both Andy and Sam Williams.
Tickets for Saturday’s game are available on the day; if you can’t make it to Hillsborough, both BBC Somerset and Glovers Player will have the usual match day coverage and @ytfcofficial will be tweeting from South Yorkshire.
It’s time to don the Green and White once more and cheer on the Glovers as they seek to climb the table starting this Saturday.
