Yeovil Town produced their best home performance of the season in this goalless draw with high flying Plymouth Argyle. The point stretched their unbeaten home league record under Darren Way to eight games and lifted the Glovers out of the bottom two on goal difference from York City who lost to leaders Northampton Town.

Manager Darren Way, buoyed by Saturday’s point against playoff chasing Portsmouth, made just one change to his starting line up. Bournemouth loanee Brandon Goodship came in for his Cherrries colleague Harry Cornick as Yeovil again named just six subs.

Yeovil started by far the brighter of the two teams in the first period. Goodship was at the heart of everything going forward and the forward hit two left footed shots, one wide and the other took a deflection into keeper Luke McCormick’s arms. Although Argyle winger Gregg Wylde went close with a rasping shot on the quarter hour, it was a rare chance for the Devonians who saw a Matt Dolan shot deflected for a corner and Tahvon Campbell slice a shot into the side netting.

Liam Walsh, later deservedly named man of the match, ran the show here the break and even went close with a crossed free kick that whistled wide of the far post. Yeovil’s play was at a good tempo with some decent interchanges between the midfield three and the front three.

Argyle boss Derek Adams made a change at half time, withdrawing Jordon Forster who had been booked in the first half and introducing Kelvin Mellor and the right back had an instant opportunity to make himself a hero but he squirted his shot wide from eight yards out.

The visitors came out much more up for it in the second half and their pressure could easily have told with a goal. Midfield general Graham Carey sent a bullet header just over the bar on 52 minutes and Yeovil almost took the lead five minutes later when Goodship put Carl McHugh under pressure as he tried heading back to McCormick but after the mix up, the striker’s shot went well wide.

Ryan Bird came on for Campbell on the hour mark and immediately went close with a flicked header from a Connor Roberts cross. Plymouth made a similar switch, swapping Wylde for ex Glover Reuben Reid but the game started to get a little scrappy, ref Lee Collins issuing three yellow cards in quick succession.

Jake Jervis headed at Krysiak on 85 minutes before, of all people, Jakub Sokolik shot wide. Peter Hartley then went closer still with a header from 25 yards that Krysiak tipped over the bar. Deep into the six minutes of stoppage time, Argyle had a shot that bounced down then spun back onto the roof of the net but at the final whistle, both sides had to settle for a point.
