Yeovil Town travelled to Devon to face National League side Torquay United in a pre-season friendly and returned home with a 2-1 victory

Despite falling behind to a Louis Briscoe goal a goal in each half from Shaun Jeffers and Matty Dolan secured the win for men in Green and White.

Paul Sturrock named new signing Alex Lacey in the starting XI and also named Max Melanson, Bradley Champion ad Jayden Corbridge, who are all part of the new academy set-up at Huish Park.

The first real chance of the game came in the sixth minute when a quick break started off by Wes Fogden saw him release Iffy Allen on the left wing. The trialist played a neat through ball to Nathan Smith. The skipper’s cross/shot beat Spiess in the Torquay goal, but the ball hit the crossbar then the post and rebounded to safety.

The home side opened the scoring with 15 minutes on the clock when Briscoe slotted home a Butler cross from just inside the area.

The Glovers left side featuring Smith and Allen were causing problems for the Torquay right back with both players creating good crossing opportunities for each other with their neat play.

With 27 minutes on the clock Town drew level when Jeffers met a Wes Fogden cross to head powerfully home past Spiess from just 12 yards.

Town took the lead with less than five minutes of the second half played. Neat work on the left again from trialist Allen saw him cross low across the ground into the path of Dolan, who smashed home from 25-yards with his left foot, leaving Spiess with no chance.

Just past the hour mark the home side nearly equalized when Luke Young’s strike hit the woodwork and bounced away to safety.

In the 70th minute Town made their first change with the impressive Allen being forced off with cramp to be replaced by Jamie Burrows.

Town now face Premier League new boys on Tuesday (28th July) at Huish Park. To buy your tickets click here.
