Town travelled to Torquay to continue their pre-season preparations and left Devon with a 2-2 draw

Goals from AJ Leitch-Smith and trialist Kamel Chergui in the second half were cancelled out by Courtney Cameron and a late Elliott Benyon header.

In bright sunshine the first half started slowly but Town started to get a hold in midfield but failed to really test Rice in Torquay goal.

The best chance of the half fell to Sam Hoskins in the 11th minute. A superb chip through from Kevin Dawson was well controlled by the former Southampton man, but his shot came back off the base of the post and into the grateful hands of Rice.

At half time Town made three changes with two of the unnamed trialists replacing Hoskins and Hayter and Matteo Lanzoni replaced Nana Twumasi at right-back.

Town had keeper Weale to thank when he was quick off his line to deny Ajala.

Just moments later the Glovers took the lead from the penalty spot after Liam Davis was upended in the area. Leitch-Smith picked the ball up and sent Rice the wrong way.

Town’s lead lasted less than five minutes. Cameron’s shot from the corner of the area went past Weale and into the net off the far post.

With ten minutes remaining Town took the lead. One of the unnamed trialists held the ball up well and calmly passed across the face of the goal to Chergui, who made no mistake in slotting home from close range.

Torquay drew level with just five minutes remaining when right back Thompson’s cross was met by the head on Benyon on the six yard line, which left Weale with no chance of saving.
