The Glovers made the long trip to Sheffield and returned to Somerset empty handed after a 2-0 defeat to Nigel Clough’s Sheffield United.

A first half goal from Marc McNulty and a second half strike from Jamie Murphy secured the three points for the men in red and white.

Manager Gary Johnson selected the same starting eleven that drew with Swindon Town three days earlier.

Town started brightly with early shots from Liam Davis and James Hayter forcing corners.

Despite the bright start by the Glovers they found themselves a goal down after 14 minutes. Krysiak parried Reed’s shot from just inside the area but McNulty was on hand to score from close range.

With ten minutes of the first half remaining keeper Krysiak was called into action. Scougall intercepted a weak back pass from Inniss, but Town’s shot stopper was quick off his line to save well with his feet.

At half time Town made their first substitute with Joel Grant being replaced by Kevin Dawson.

With just over twenty minutes remaining the home side doubled their lead.

17-year-old Louis Reed picked up the loose ball in midfield and sent Murphy through on goal. With just Krysiak to beat the United man made no mistake in slotting past the Town keeper.

Town made their two remaining substitutes in the second half with Sam Foley and Nathan Smith replacing James Hayter and Nathan Ralph. Despite the fresh legs Town failed to test Howard in the United goal.
