15th September 2018

In a full-throttle affair, the Glovers ran into a 3-0 lead at the halfway stage courtesy of strikes from the lively trio of Yoann Arquin, Jordan Green and Diallang Jaiyesimi.

Stunning their previously buoyant hosts, Town went on to record the biggest away win the division since 2011, with Green, Olufela Olomola and Carl Dickinson rounding off the impressive rout after the restart.

Winning on the road a fortnight ago, Darren Way opted for the same starting eleven that took to the field at Grimsby Town.

Reinforcing the bench, defender Shaun Donnellan returned from a thigh injury along with winger Rhys Browne who was involved in a matchday squad for the first time in 2017/18 after suffering a hamstring injury in July.

The duo of Alefe Santos and Korrey Henry – who’s joined Poole Town on loan – dropped from the bench to join the injured quintet of Stuart Nelson (calf), James Bailey (knee), Tom James (hip flexor), Francois Zoko (knee) and Wes McDonald who wasn’t risked after returning to training this week.

With both sides making excellent starts to the campaign, it was an unsurprisingly high tempo start to proceedings in South Wales.

Leaving the wing duo of Green and Arquin high up the pitch the tactic paid early dividends as the pair both had early shots on goal.

That should have acted as a warning for the Exiles but in the 20th minute the Town pair were both involved in the game’s opening goal.

Green demonstrated his pace to burst along the by-line before pulling the ball back for Diallang Jaiyesimi who was tripped prior to pulling the trigger, but an excellent advantage from referee Peter Wright allowed the ball to find its way to Arquin who laced home his third of the season.

Looking to defend their unbeaten run which ran back to the opening day of the season, Michael Flynn’s side enjoyed 10-minutes of territory in response to going a goal behind.

Roared on by their vocal home support the Exiles encamped themselves in the Town half but couldn’t truly test Nathan Baxter in the visiting goal.

Tyreeq Bakinson forced a smart save from close range but the linesman’s flag ruled out the attempt on goal for offside as Way’s men came out the other side unscathed.

Having ridden the storm, the green and whites stunned the home crowd by doubling their advantage with seven minutes of the first-half remaining.

Carl Dickinson’s tempting ball over the top perfectly picked out the run of Green, who shook off Mickey Demetriou to stab an effort past Joe Day.

Unable to deal with Town’s pace on offer up front, a good opening 45 minutes became a great one on the stroke of half-time.

Pattison’s driving run from midfield saw the visitors have numbers on the home defence, and although Arquin’s eventual shot was well-saved by Day, Norwich loanee Jaiyesimi was on hand to head home from virtually the goal-line on the rebound.

Looking to somehow salvage their unbeaten run the Exiles made two changes and switched formation at the break but it was the Somerset outfit who remained relentlessly on top.

Just 90 seconds in the second-half it was 4-0 when Green marked a return to his former club with a second of the afternoon courtesy of a smart finish from the angle.

In a commanding position, Way introduced the potent Olomola from the bench and in an afternoon where Town’s attack enjoyed themselves, the Scunthorpe loanee re-opened his account in green and white just five minutes later.

Receiving the ball out wide, the striker twisted and turned his way past Demetriou who wound up in a heap on the floor, prior to firing a left-footed strike past a flat-footed Day.

Causing a mass exodus amongst the home supporters the visitors purred with confidence and competently stroked the ball around in commanding manner.

With 15 minutes left, the goal scoring was rounded off to confirm the club’s biggest ever win since entering the EFL 15 years ago.

Dickinson’s free-kick from range should’ve been routine for County’s stopper, but Day could only allow the ball to trickle through his hands to give the full-back his first Yeovil goal.

Second half Exiles sub Robbie Willmott received a straight red on 81 minutes for a two-footed lunge on Olomola to add further misery for Michael Flynn’s side, before the Glovers added more history to the occasion.

Academy product Gabby Rogers came on for his league debut, adding the icing on the cake to a day to remember at Rodney Parade.
