Hey everyone. I hope you have all had a good week and that the 84 of you who made the mammoth journey to Accrington have just about recovered and work wasn’t too much of a struggle yesterday!
I am so proud to be a Yeovil Town fan for so many reasons but our fan base is one of main ones. We have been through such a tough time yet the great support never wavers – even if it is a 500 mile round-trip on a cold Tuesday evening.
Unfortunately, we didn’t get the result we wanted but it was nice to see Josh Sheehan get off the mark and in style! We seem to be scoring some great goals recently but not getting the results they warrant.
However, we finally have some good news regarding injuries, with Ryan Dickson, Marc Laird, Alex Lacey, Omar Sowumni and Jack Compton all edging back to fitness. Hopefully by Saturday or Tuesday, we should have a healthier squad. Stick with it Yeovil fans!
In other news, the Women’s Super League 2 promotion places were decided on Sunday and unfortunately our amazing ladies were pipped to the post.
Doncaster Belles edged past London Bees 2-1, while Reading Women beat Watford Ladies 3-1. It was Yeovil’s 1-0 loss to Oxford that guaranteed the Royals a spot in WSL 1 but that disappointment was almost forgotten after our skipper Natalie Haigh suffered a horrific injury.
After she went down with a head injury, play was halted and there was 23 minutes of added time at the end of the match! It is just something about Yeovil and injuries at the moment.
I have had the pleasure of chatting to Natalie and she is the most motivated and genuine person who loves her team more than anything.
She assures me she is getting there and that all the messages have been getting here through.
It is always awful to see an injury of that kind and it really does put the game in to perspective. Get well soon Nat!
With the women’s game on a continual rise, there is much to be excited about for next season. I think everyone would agree that Reading and Doncaster were the best teams in WSL 2 but Yeovil were not far behind and next season we could make even more history.
Bristol Academy have suffered relegation to WSL 2 from the top flight following a 6-1 thrashing by Manchester City. This means there is a tasty local derby to look forward to next season.
Sheffield ladies will also be a new addition to the league, having won the Women’s Premier League Play-Off.
But there are still two matches to go to secure third place for The Glovers. Yeovil travel to Aston Villa this Sunday before welcoming Durham to Sherborne on the 18th October.
Make sure you get down and support the ladies- they deserve it after what has been an incredible season.
As for the men’s side, we have an extremely tricky trip to Portsmouth up next. They were finally beaten on Tuesday by Exeter and it was great to see former Glover Arron Davies on the scoresheet.
It shows they are beatable and so many people will have already written us off. If we could come back to Huish Park with at least a point I think we would all be very happy.
I am sure we will take a huge following and it will be a great atmosphere.
Let’s hope our captain fantastic can finally lead us out, or at least get some game time, and help pull off a season changing result.
