30th December 2016

Darren Way took over a year ago tomorrow with town bottom of Sky Bet League Two.

The Glovers have since strived forward under way’s guidance and have flirted with the play-offs.

Town currently sit 13th after a winless run of three matches and will hope to end that record, and the year, with three points when Portsmouth visit Huish Park this evening.

The south coast club are in their fourth season in the division and after years of turmoil are fighting for promotion back up the football pyramid.

Pompey lie one place outside the automatic promotion places, five points adrift of Carlisle United in third.

Paul Cook’s side trailed 2-0 to bottom club Newport County on Boxing Day but came from behind to win 3-2.

Experienced midfielder Gary Roberts tops the goalscoring charts with seven goals so far in the league and is certainly one to look out for.

Head-to-head

The history between the two clubs is very even with town and Portsmouth winning two games each and playing out two further draws.

Yeovil hosted Pompey earlier on in the campaign in the Checkatrade trophy and edged out their league two counterparts in a seven-goal thriller.

Tom Eaves was on form on the day netting twice after two mazy runs.

Michael Smith scored a hat-trick for Portsmouth on the day and has been on the scoresheet just three times since.

Referee

Christopher Sarginson (Staffordshire) will take charge of his 22nd game of the season tonight.

The Staffordshire-born official has awarded 65 yellow cards and two red cards so far this season and officiated town’s 1-0 away win at Crewe Alexandra.

Mr. Sarginson will be assisted by Neil Radford (Worcestershire) and Michael Webb (Surrey) with Adrian Quelch acting as fourth official.
