4th September 2015

Yeovil Town are back in SkyBet League Two action this coming Saturday when Morecambe visit Huish Park for a 3pm kick off.

The Glovers tasted victory for the second time this season when they beat Barnet in Tuesday night’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy first round match.

Yeovil won 1-0 on the night with the winning goal coming from the mixed up clearance of a Barnet defender.

A win is a win however it comes; the statistics show that Yeovil picked up the win despite failing to register a shot on target.

It wouldn’t be a Yeovil fixture without an injury report and of course we have to report on more work for the physio at Huish Park.

The increasing injury list makes for stark reading as loanee Josh Wakefield has been all but ruled out of Saturday’s game with an ankle injury.

Wakefield hobbled off in midweek, but at least he made the game, unlike defender Jakub Sokolik who missed out altogether. Sokolik played against Oxford with a cast protecting a fractured wrist but he saw a specialist in midweek and is rated as touch and go for Saturday.

So, to do the injury roll call, we have the following players ruled out of Saturday; Ben Tozer, Marc Laird, Ryan Dickson, Simon Gillett, Kevin Dawson and Wes Fogden.

Also, Jamie Burrows has been missing from the last two squads and David Norris has left the club as part of his Non-Contract terms. Norris would have had to either become a permanent addition or leave the club before the 6pm deadline on Tuesday. If he had remained registered to Yeovil and then decided to move on, he couldn’t have been registered with another club until January.

All of this leaves Paul Sturrock with no more than 15 fit players to choose from for the game. The loan window doesn’t open in time to add any more to that number so it will be a list of who is fit and able to play.

As for the visiting side, manager Jim Bentley wasn’t particularly active during the end of the transfer window, but he did swoop for a Manchester United goalkeeper… no, not that one.

Kieran O’Hara has joined on a month youth loan, he has been drafted in due to injury to Tony Thompson. Morecambe’s form has been relatively good, they currently lie in 10th place in the league and, like Yeovil, progressed through to the next round of the JPT.

The Shrimps beat high flying Walsall 2-0 in midweek, that results has come off the back of a win against Notts County and a 3-3 draw with Portsmouth. The travelling side have got two players back from suspension after three game bans.

Kevin Ellison and Ryan Edwards have missed the last three fixtures after an incident in the game vs Wycombe was reviewed and deemed worthy of a violent conduct charge. With those two back in contention Yeovil will be up against a side at near full capacity.

But that won’t put off an injury ravaged Glovers side who will have been buoyed by a clean sheet and a positive result.

Last time we met

The last time Yeovil and Morecambe crossed paths was back in Conference days, so this will be the first time the sides have met in the Football League.

The FA Trophy 4th Round match was the setting for the last meeting way back in 2003, that game ended in a 2-1 win for the Glovers.

Terry Skiverton and Kirk Jackson scoring the goals to send the home side through.

The side that day included Chris Weale and Darren Way as well as goal scorer Skiverton – all three now on the coaching staff at Huish Park.

The Glovers’ record vs Morecambe is actually very good, the last four meetings have all ended in Yeovil’s favour. In fact, it has been ten matches since Morecambe came out on top in the head to head.

The previous nine have seen six Yeovil wins and three draws.
