Yeovil Town are back in SkyBet League Two action this Saturday as they host Luton Town at Huish Park.

The fixtures have come thick and fast at the start of the season with the Saturday-Tuesday combo continuing right through from the opening day.

Paul Sturrock’s men have played four fixtures losing them all, a close encounter at Exeter City which saw the Glovers come from 2-0 down to 2-2.

Then, a cup match against a highly experienced QPR side followed before two unlucky 1-0 defeats.

Bristol Rovers snatched a last gasp winner to seal the points last Saturday before the midweek trip to York ended in similar fashion when former Yeovil player James Berrett hit home a deflected shot to separate the sides.

Luton are currently sat in 18th place in the division and, like Yeovil, are winless in the league this season. They have drawn twice however – a 1-1 tie against Accrington and a 2-2 draw versus Oxford.

Their only success this season has come in the Capital One Cup, a shock win over Bristol City in which Jack Marrison scored twice.

In midweek, like Yeovil they went down 1-0, however John Still’s side came a cropper at home, to Bristol Rovers.

Luton Town have brought in a couple of high profile attacking names this summer with former Celtic man Paddy McCourt and ex-Peterborough front man Craig Mackail Smith joining the ranks.

Yeovil have a new man too, Bournemouth midfielder Josh Wakefiled was introduced to his new teammates hours before kick-off on Tuesday and played 90 minutes for his loan club shortly after.

Wakefield was brought in due to an increasing shortage of midfielders at Yeovil, however there is some light at the end of the tunnel.

Jack Compton and Omar Sowumni have finally made their league debuts for the Glovers coming off the bench on Tuesday. Both of those started the season on the injury list but are now back in contention.

Midfielder Matt Dolan missed out on Tuesday through suspension, but his one-game ban is now over and he is back for this Saturday’s game.

Tuesday was also the first time this season Yeovil have been able to name a full bench with Jordan Gibbons also making his return to the squad following an early season knock.

It is hoped that the remaining injuries to Mark Laird and Ryan Dickson will edge closer to being healed and they can return to the squad too.

The fixture will also see Glovers’ defender Alex Lacey face the club he left this summer. Lacey joined Yeovil from Luton and has been a mainstay in the heart of defence this term.

So come along to Huish Park this weekend to see if Yeovil can kick start this season as players return to the squad and Sturrock finally gets the chance to work with the players he signed up this summer.

Last time we met

Yeovil and Luton have only met three times in competitive action; once in a Carling Cup match in 2003. A game that ended 4-1 to the Hatters.

The two league fixtures in the 2007/08 season saw just the one goal between them; a 0-0 draw at Huish Park was followed by a 1-0 Luton win back at Kenilworth Road.

So, in three meetings between the sides, Yeovil have scored just once – that goal… an own goal.

Yeovil then will be hoping that at the very least, someone in green and white finds the net.
