8th April 2016

Yeovil Town are back in SkyBet League Two action this coming Saturday when they host Exeter City at Huish Park with a 3pm kick off.

Manager Darren Way has this week signed a new three-year deal after guiding his side to 8 clean sheets out of the last 9 games and soaring up the form table.

On Tuesday, Yeovil travelled to Stevenage and ground out a difficult 0-0 draw against a side battling to avoid the drop.

A single 0-0 stalemate may not scream good form, but when it’s added to wins over Newport, Notts County, Mansfield, Accrington and Dagenham it starts to show just how far the Glovers have come – all without conceding a goal!

Artur Krysiak and his defence have done admirably time and time again despite some inconsistencies in squad selection.

Captain Darren Ward has been ruled out for the foreseeable future and Connor Roberts has now returned from international duty.

With suspension and niggly injuries keeping the side changing it makes the performances of Nathan Smith, Jakub Sokolik and their colleagues all the more impressive.

The news from midfield is good too, with Liam Walsh returning to availability after serving a three game ban.

However, this may be good in terms of selection, it presents a problem for the gaffer who will need to leave out one of the other loanees from the match day squad.

One of Tahvon Campbell, Brandon Goodship, Harry Cornick, Connor Roberts and Liam Shephard will have to remain in the stand for Walsh to make his comeback in the squad.

One man who did make his comeback this week was Francois Zoko who has been missing for a few games and made a substitute appearance this past Tuesday.

Decisions, decisions for the gaffer then who will be looking to continue a really impressive home form.

Some have been dubbing it ‘Fortress Huish’ and a positive result for the Glovers will mean they haven’t lost a league game at home since November… 136 days.

In that time the side have conceded just four goals, and two of those came in one game, vs Barnet in December.

But, the sternest test of that will come this Saturday; the Grecians are in some cracking form themselves and their 11th place in the table is probably close enough for them to consider a late push for the play-offs.

There are just two points between them and 7th, and a win could fire them right into the top spots depending a number of other team’s fortunes.

Their form reads almost as good as Yeovil’s with a win over Plymouth in the Devon Derby the highlight of an impressive couple of months.

Paul Tisdale’s side have been lucky enough to have Ollie Watkins in their side, six goals in seven for the front man has been a talismanic part of their performance.

He will be the toughest challenge yet to face the Glovers defence and their crisp, clean, freshly laundered sheet.

Unsurprisingly, it will be a game of ‘spot the former Glovers player’ for home fans, check off your bingo sheet when the faces of Jamie McCallister, David Noble, Arron Davies and of course Paul Tisdale come onto the pitch.

It’s a local derby with ramifications at both ends of the table, as mathematical survival could be achieved if York and Dagenham slip up in their games.

So come along to the home of football in Somerset this Saturday and cheer on the Gaffer’s side at the Fortress Huish.

Last time we met

The first meeting between these two sides came way back on the first day of the season, a five goal thriller was edged by Exeter who won thanks to goals from Will Hoskins, Tom Nichols and David Wheeler.

Yeovil got two of their own from Harry Cornick and Matt Dolan.

The two teams have met countless times over recent years in all forms of competition, however, not competitively have they played since the 2011/12 season.

The two games that season came either side of new year and resulted in two score draws, 1-1 at St James’ Park and 2-2 back in Somerset.

Andy Williams was on target for the Glovers in Exeter while it was the midfield due of Ed Upson and Dom Blizzard who netted down in Devon.

Interestingly, in goal for the Grecians on both those occasions was none other than Artur Krysiak.

Since that meeting, the sides have played two friendly games, once in 2012 which saw yet another draw and once in 2013 which Yeovil win 2-1.
