9th October 2015

Yeovil Town are back in SkyBet League Two action this coming Saturday when the Glovers host Dagenham and Redbridge.

The game at Huish Park kicks off at 3pm.

Yeovil are hoping to build on a couple of positive results after gaining draws against high flying Portsmouth and Coventry City in midweek.

The defensive performance at Fratton Park last Saturday was backed up with another clean sheet against a play-off chasing League One side and those shut outs are a fantastic foundation to build upon this week.

To make the 0-0 draw against Coventry even better, the penalty shootout that follows in the JPT was won by Yeovil who scored all four of their spot kicks and Artur Krysiak saved two to secure a Southern Quarter Final place.

Ryan Dickson, Marc Laird, Jake Howells and Ryan Bird all converted from 12 yards, just to get that feeling of hitting the back of the net back in the system.

Laird and Dickson, just back from injury put another 90 minutes in their legs in a match where the gaffer decided against using any substitutions.

However, it wouldn’t be a Glovers preview without mentioning a few injury concerns and Paul Sturrock is sweating on the fitness of most of his back line.

Stephen Arthurworrey got through the whole game on Tuesday but could be struggling, Jakub Sokolik was missing altogether and Alex Lacey isn’t quite yet ready to return.

All of this means, with Omar Sowunmi becoming a striker (and playing up front!), there might not be a single central defender to call upon.

Nathan Smith has been deployed in the centre and Ryan Bird is no stranger back there despite his status as the top scorer in the side, one or maybe both, may be needed to fill in.

Elsewhere on the injury front, each game that goes by presents players an extra day or two to continue rehab and we could hopefully see a few more returning to contention soon.

As for the Daggers, they too are coming into the game off the back of a JPT win, albeit 24 hours after Yeovil.

Drawn away at Stevenage in the 2nd round, Dagenham gained a creditable 2-1 win thanks to goals from Ashley Chambers and the evergreen Jamie Cureton.

Chambers has scored three games in his last two games after notching a brace in their seven goal thriller with Mansfield last weekend.

That 4-3 result went the way of Mansfield Town despite the Daggers being in front as the clock ticked around to 80 minutes.

Dagenham have been active in the transfer market this week adding two new faces to their squad, former Arsenal player Justin Hoyte has joined on non-contract terms and they’ve been knocking on QPR’s door for the loan signing of midfielder Jake Mulraney.

Both are expected to be involved this weekend.

A reminder that Welsh Under 21 international Josh Sheehan is still away for the Glovers and will return for next week’s game against Notts County.

Wayne Burnett brings his squad to Huish Park with both sides straddling the relegation zone, Yeovil just above the line and the Daggers just below it.

Whilst it is probably far too early to be concerned about the league position but putting a three point gap between yourself and the bottom two can only do positive things for the side.

A win for either side would see them leap up to a place as high as 18th – Sturrock’s men could really do with your support this Saturday.

Last time we met

The last time the two sides met was back during the 2010/11 season, neither result went the way of the Glovers.

Down at Victoria Road, Oli Johnson scored the only Glovers goal in a 2-1 defeat, it was a late Jon Nurse goal that had sealed the points despite Yeovil’s best efforts to firstly level the game, but try and go and win it.

Back at Huish Park, the result was even worse, the Glovers were once again only able to score a single goal in a defeat – this time, 3-1.

Andy Williams had equalised on the stroke of half time, but a trio of goals from Will Antwi, Abu Agogo and Medy Elito sealed the points for the travelling Daggers.

Prior to that, the only meetings were in non-league, with the final one in the Conference being a heavy Glovers win.

Kevin Gall and a Kirk Jackson hat trick settled the game in a 4-0 win during the Conference winning season.
