18th January 2016

Yeovil Town are back in FA Cup action this coming Tuesday night when the Glovers host fellow League Two side Carlisle United in a third round replay.

The game comes ten days after the first game ended in a 2-2 draw, Shaun Jeffers securing the replay with a 94th minute equaliser.

Between the first fixture and the replay, the draw for the fourth round was made and the prize for the victors is a visit of a Premier League side.

Whoever progresses from this Tuesday’s game will host Everton on Sunday 31st January with a 1:30pm kick off.

The fourth round tie against one of the Premier League’s biggest sides will not only represent a great chance for the players, management and fans to test themselves against the elite players of the country but also mean a huge boot financially with upwards of £200,000 up for grabs just for progressing and being on TV.

Thoughts of Lukaku, Stones and Baines will need to be put on hold as the sides will need to concentrate on each other this Tuesday.

In terms of football, Yeovil’s prep for this match was a lengthy journey to face Lancashire side Morecambe on Saturday.

Undoubtedly a more attacking performance created plenty of chances but Yeovil squandered all but one of them and came out on the wrong side of a 2-1 scoreline.

It was Darren Ward who scored his first goal for the club, but chances for Matty Dolan from the penalty spot, Iffy Allen and Jack Compton two name just a few were not converted and that left the door open for a sucker punch from the home side.

In contrast, Carlisle made their own long journey – to Barnet – where they played out a 0-0 draw at the weekend.

It has been revealed that instead of returning to the north, the Cumbrians have based themselves in the south for a couple of extra days.

The expense of hotel rooms and borrowed training facilities seemingly worth the risk for the League Two promotion chasers.

The team news from Yeovil is that Darren Way could make changes after he voiced his disappointment at the Morecambe result and demanded more from his side over the course of the game.

Francois Zoko will be monitored after sustaining a bloody nose and Liam Walsh took his fair share of robust challenges but should be fine to make his third appearance in this loan spell.

The clock continues to tick for the returning injured players, Marc Laird was on the bench at the weekend but didn’t make the pitch, Kevin Dawson and Simon Gillett will be hoping to be considered for first team duties sooner rather than later.

As for the visitors, they played out their 0-0 draw with Barnet with virtually the same side that played against Yeovil the week before.

Both scorers, defenders Danny Grainger and Mark Ellis played and kept a clean sheet and it is safe to assume they will both line up again this coming Tuesday.

Striker Jabo Ibhere complained of tightness in his muscles ahead of the game on Saturday but still took a full part, he will be given time to rest before deciding on his inclusion in the side.

Cup fever hits Huish Park again this Tuesday and in a game that echoes of the Accrington Stanley game just over 12 months ago, the stakes are high and the prize is a game against one of the biggest names in the Premier League.

Come down to Huish Park and be a part of the success as Darren Way looks to guide his side into the fourth round.

Last time we met

The two sides played out a 2-2 draw in the first attempt at settling this FA Cup tie ten days ago.

The teams met at Blackpool’s Bloomfield Road and twice Yeovil came from behind to draw level.

Francois Zoko and Shaun Jeffers scoring for the Glovers, Jeffers’ strike coming right at the death to ensure the replay took place.

Meanwhile, in the only league meeting between the sides this term, it was another goal-fest with Carlisle turning a two goal deficit into a win, cancelling out two early strikes from Harry Cornick and Ryan Bird to win 3-2.

During the 2012/13 season the two sides played a couple of very exciting games that saw a 3-3 draw being played out at Brunton Park and a 3-1 Blues win down at Huish Park.

In the first game of that season, Mark Beck – now of Yeovil – scored twice in a 3-1 win for Carlisle. Reuben Reid got a consolation shortly before Joe Garner put the game beyond all doubt deep into the second half.

In the reverse fixture Yeovil were 3-1 up with 89 minutes on the clock but failed to seal the win.

Kevin Dawson, Paddy Madden and James Hayter had all scored in front of the 150 or so travelling fans, but Lee Miller and a Luke Ayling own goal meant the spoils were shared.

The Glovers haven’t record a win over the Cumbrians since 2011 when goals from Jon Obika and Dean Bowditch completed a double over their opponents after a 1-0 win (Obika again) secured a win at Huish Park.
