Yeovil Town are back in SkyBet League 2 action this coming Saturday and it’s the second local derby in a row for the Glovers as they welcome Bristol Rovers to Huish Park.

Both sides are looking for their first win of the season, Yeovil narrowly lost out on the opening day down at Exeter, coming from behind to claw back to a 2-2 position but conceded late on.

In the first round of the Capital One Cup, QPR came to Somerset and despite making a number of changes were still able to field a number of international stars and big name players, the gulf was too big and the R’s won 3-0 despite a spirited performance from a stretched Glovers squad.

As for Rovers, they began their first season back in the Football League with two defeats. They fell to a late goal from their former star, John Joe O’Toole as they lost to Northampton on the opening day of the campaign.

Their cup run was also halted at the first hurdle despite them giving Birmingham City a bit of a scare.

All three goals in the 2-1 win were scored in a 10-minute period during the second half. The Blues took the lead but were pegged back by Ellis Harrison only for the visitors from the Championship to go back up the other end and retake the lead.

Paul Sturrock has used his squad to the full over the past couple of fixtures with a number of injuries already causing problems at Huish Park.

Ben Tozer, Kevin Dawson and Simon Gillett are all on the recovery path but might yet be missing for a little bit while the likes of Omar Sowunmi, Jack Compton and Jordan Gibbons are closer to returning.

Marc Laird hobbled off against QPR and looks like being an absentee for a while as does captain Ryan Dickson with hamstring and groin injuries respectively.

Sturrock has said that his bench might not only be thin, but may be lacking any defensive cover at all with only attackers available in reserve.

Bristol Rovers will be bringing back two former Glovers in their squad with goalkeeper Steve Mildenhall and Tom Parkes in defence having representing Yeovil. However Mildy was a Glovers for a lot longer than one time loanee Parkes.

They also boast a fully-fledged, current international in Jake Gosling who is regularly called up for the Gibraltar national side.

The opening of the season was met with the licking of lips from Yeovil fans, but with one local derby going the way of the opposition and a giant killing in the cup thwarted by a class side with Premier League pedigree there will be thousands in the home end that will be hoping for a turnaround in result for the second derby match within a week.

The marquee will only be open to home fans for the match and there will be no booze bars behind the terraces.

Last time we met

With the geography of these two sides being so close to one another it comes as no surprise that the two have met on many, many occasions.

However, with Bristol Rovers dropping out of the league while Yeovil were ascending to the Championship, they haven’t actually crossed in a league match since 2011.

A friendly in 2014 ended in a 2-0 Yeovil win after Ajay Leitch Smith scored twice and there has been Johnstones Paint Trophy fixture in 2012, which also ended in a Glovers win after Ed Upson and Sam Foley did the damage.

The last league meeting did however end in a Rovers victory, a single Gavin Williams goal – wearing the blue and white, not green and white – secured the win late on.
