11th September 2015

Yeovil Town are back in SkyBet League Two action this coming Saturday when the Glovers host AFC Wimbledon with a 3pm kick off.

Tickets are available right up until kick off and Paul Sturrock is urging the good people of Somerset to come out in force.

Yeovil are going through a run of mixed form with defeat last week against Morecambe, following on from a 1-0 win over Barnet.

The last five games have followed a win-loss pattern which of course means that if it continues in that vein Yeovil will win this Saturday.

It wouldn’t be a Yeovil preview if we didn’t talk injuries.

What do you want first, the good news or the bad news?

Ok, bad news first. Jack Compton has been ruled out for four weeks, a minor muscle injury has proved to be a little bit more serious and needs proper recovery time.

He of course joins an ever increasing list of absentees, which this week also includes Shaun Jeffers.

Jeffers is fit and raring to go… but following his sending off on Saturday is out for three games through suspension.

It’s about time we had some good news, which is handy as both Jakub Sokolik and Josh Wakefield are both undergoing fitness tests this Friday to see if they can take their place in the squad on Saturday.

It won’t be enough to fill the bench again but Manager Paul Sturrock has promised that one of the youth team players to impress in training may get a chance to sit with the other substitutes.

Sturrock also revealed that two of the injured clan could well be back and available for the Hartlepool fixture on September 26th.

Onto even better news, Harry Cornick and Connor Roberts have extended their stays with Somerset for another month.

Combine that with the recent images on social media of the two longest term absentees, Kevin Dawson and Simon Gillett back running for the first time in many months and there is finally some light at the end of the tunnel.

As for our opponents, Wimbledon have been a little bit hit and miss themselves; they currently sit in 13th place with eight points to their name.

They drew last time out, a 1-1 tie with Mansfield. Before that they crashed out of the JPT losing to Plymouth and before that came a win over Exeter.

The Dons have their own suspension to deal with; Lyle Taylor came on against Mansfield in the second half and was sent off a mere 25 minutes later.

Wimbledon, like Yeovil, attempted to appeal the decision but both managers were left frustrated with negative responses.

The other bit of key team news is that winger Andy Barcham returns to the squad following a spell out with a hamstring problem.

Defender Karleigh Osbourne could also return after missing much of last week’s training.

Sturrock has admitted Yeovil will be scratching and clawing through the next couple of games, but the Glovers squad have no desire to try and come away with anything less than three points.

Every person through the turnstiles helps both in a financial sense, but more importantly in terms of support for the team.

Last time we met

This part is a little bit complicated.

Firstly, Yeovil Town and AFC Wimbledon have never met, but this is not the first meeting between the sides… do you follow?

Under the current team name, the two sides have not crossed paths with the Dons having only recently joined the Football League

Yeovil and Wimbledon – the original Dons – have crossed paths before, but not since the turn of the Millennium and not competitively since 1977.

There was a friendly between the two in 1999, a match which Yeovil lost 4-2.

Jason Eaton and Adrian Foster scored Yeovil’s goals that day, but the Dons had their big guns out, John Hartson, Robbie Earle and Carl Cort all making their mark in the fixture.

Before that, another friendly in the early 90’s is all we can find since a Southern League match way back in the 1970’s!
