If Yeovil are to challenge at the top of the FA WSL 2 table, this coming week could be season-defining – and the importance of their three-game stretch is not lost on Sarah Wiltshire.

The Lady Glovers bounced back from their opening-day defeat to Bristol City in FA WSL 2 by taking away three points from Watford last week. But next week is when their campaign truly starts, as they face Millwall Lionesses twice and Oxford over a six-day period.

First up is Millwall – in their first league game at Huish Park this season – and Wiltshire insists an improved squad is more than ready for the challenges that lie ahead.

“Promotion is our goal but we have to take each game as it comes and we’ve got a tough week ahead, with three games in the space of six days,” said the forward.

“But from having brought in more players, we’ve got a bigger squad so hopefully we can cope with that.

“Millwall have always been a strong team and they’ve also improved their squad – and that shows because they’ve started the season well. So we’ve got to be at our best.

“We did well to come back from two goals behind against Bristol, but we were disappointed not to get anything out of that game. But then to get the three points against Watford has given us something to build from.”

While it is still early days, Millwall look a team transformed in 2016 with four points out of a possible six already under their belts. Compare that to last season, in which they only picked up 12 points in FA WSL 2 all year, and there’s little wonder why midfielder Ciara Sherwood believes her side are going from strength to strength.

“Yeovil were one of the best teams we played against last season and it will be a challenge but we feel we can get something positive out of the game,” she said.

“Before their game with Watford we would have been expecting a really hard challenge and while I am not saying it won’t be, we can take a lot of confidence knowing Watford went so close against them.

“We know we can score goals now and I reckon it will be a very good game.

“The season so far has been really positive, especially the draw against Everton. It showed how far we have come compared to last season.”

The game at Huish Park kicks off at 2.00pm and tickets can be booked in advance by clicking here or paying cash of the turnstile (£5.00 adults / £2.50 concessions)
