Yeovil Town are back in SkyBet Championship action this weekend as they host FA Cup holders Wigan Athletic to Huish Park.
It’s worth a reminder that the game is taking place on Sunday 10th (3pm kick off) rather than the usual Saturday due to Wigan’s involvement in the Europa League on Thursday evening.
Following last weekend’s defeat at Leeds, Yeovil find themselves back on the bottom of the pile in the league, by the time kick off comes round on Sunday, the Glovers could be as many as five points behind the side sitting in 21st, but of course all the sides at the bottom will have all played one game more.
Despite the 2-0 loss at Elland Road, the Glovers are probably on their best spell of the season, and have a win and draw under their belts from their last two home games.
Wigan are sat in 10th place in the table following their win over Huddersfield last weekend, their priorities have had to be spilt this season as they tackle European football alongside the domestic calendar.
The Latics were in Russia on Thursday to face Rubin Kazan and took the opportunity to rest a number of players including former England ‘keeper Scott Carson and FA cup final hero Ben Watson. Rubin ran out 1-0 winners.
One other midfielder who didn’t take part on Thursday but could be available is Aston Villa loanee Marc Albrighton who joined the Lancashire side in October.
For Yeovil the main story of the week surrounds another loan player suffering with an injury, Andy Williams is expected to miss the rest of the season with a knee ligament problem that will require surgery.
Whilst Yeovil haven’t added to the squad with an extra man, Gary Johnson has claimed that Paddy Madden has trained "like a new signing" this week so it could be up to the Republic of Ireland man to find the goals this weekend.
Johnson will be forced into one change as midfielder Ed Upson clocked up his 5th yellow card of the season last weekend so is suspended.
Normally, Fraser Fyvie, on his way back from injury, would be one of the first in the queue to replace Upson, but he is on loan from Wigan and so is unavailable to face his parent club.
Upson was part of the Glovers side that progressed through to the quarter finals of the Somerset Premier Cup following a 4-1 win over Weston Super Mare in midweek.
Luke Ayling saw red in that game, but will be available for selection this Sunday as his ban applies only to ‘non-first team fixtures’. Sam Foley, Sam Hoskins and Liam Fontaine scored for Yeovil on Tuesday night.
To add to the historic nature of the current FA Cup holders coming to Yeovil, it is also the first time that these two sides have ever met competitively – only a couple of friendlies have seen these sides cross paths before.
All four stands are set to be packed out once more, but you can still secure your place through all the usual outlets; call the ticket office on 01935 847888, pop onto ytfc.net or come down in person.
Due to the unusual nature of the Sunday kick off, the ticket office will be open on Saturday from 9am-12pm.
The last time Huish Park saw Championship action it was an emphatic 3-1 win over a former European giant, it will be a great chance to repeat that result against a current European outfit.
