5th April 2016

Yeovil Town are back in SkyBet League Two action this coming Tuesday night when they head to Stevenage for a hastily rearranged match from the Easter weekend.

The Glovers are back in winning ways following Saturday’s 1-0 over Newport and will be hoping to continue that run against another side in and around them in the table.

Stevenage are 22nd place, which maybe just one place above the drop zone, is actually nine points clear of the two teams below the dreaded line.

That leaves the Glovers a full 13 points from those two sides dropping into the National League.

A win for either side will be enough to ease their fears for good.

The 1-0 victory for Darren Way’s men on Saturday was their fifth by that score line since the turn of the year, the Glovers form has been on a constant upward path and Darren Way has taken much of the credit for galvanising the side since taking over.

Only a 3-0 loss to Cambridge a few games back is seen as the only blot on an otherwise impressive copy book that includes wins over promotion chasers as well as those who need the points for other reasons.

The team news surrounds the same names as against Newport.

Liam Walsh remains suspended while the injury concerns around Darren Ward and Francois Zoko are still lingering around.

Brandon Goodship missed out through illness and the Gaffer will be assessing his options with an every flexible front line should he become available again.

As for Stevenage, they are coming into this game off the back a 1-0 win of their own.

Michael Tonge scored a late winner to pick up the win over Luton, their prior results hadn’t been so kind however, a draw with Oxford was the highlight of a bleak March which saw three defeats to high flying sides, Northampton, Wycombe and Portsmouth.

They have recently added a couple of new names with Keith Keane coming in from Cambridge and Charlie Adams signing as a free agent having spent some time in America.

Darrell Sarll, the Stevenage boss has already set his sights on this Tuesday’s fixture saying that despite the positive form of Darren Way’s side his team are out for three points.

But, travelling Glovers fans will be singing “1-0 to the Yeovil” like the Arsenal days of old with their form and you can be there too.

If you can’t make the game on Tuesday, the ‘fortress Huish Park’ tag will be given another test when Exeter City visit this weekend.

Last time we met

Earlier this season, the two sides played out a 2-2 draw at Huish Park when goals from Harry Cornick and Shaun Jeffers gained a much needed point.

The two sides also crossed paths in the FA Cup, a single Ben Tozer goal gave Darren Way his first win in his first game in charge.

Yeovil and Stevenage have a long and colourful past crossing each other at just about every level from League One to non league and will meet in the middle, in League Two this Saturday.

The last meeting was during the 2012/13 season where Yeovil gained promotion to the Championship.

In April of the season, a 2-0 win at Broadhall Way saw the Glovers secure their play-off spot.

Goals from James Hayter and a fantastic effort from Sam Foley did the damage even if the away side had Dan Burn sent off for two bookable offences deep into added time.

Earlier the same season, the result was very different with a 3-1 Stevenage win in November.

Paddy Madden had scored an early equaliser but goals in the second half from Lucas Akins and James Dunne meant the result went the way of ‘Boro.

Possibly the most famous meeting of the two sides came back in 2002 when the sides played off in the FA Trophy final at Villa Park.

Yeovil won the game 2-0 thanks to goals from Carl Alford and Adam Stansfield helped the Glovers lift the trophy and begin an excellent decade of success.

In goal that day was Chris Weale, who thirteen years later, could once against take his place in the same fixture.
