4th August 2022

Yeovil Town travel to Scunthorpe United for an opening day clash against the newly relegated opposition (5:20pm, Saturday).

After spending the last few years working as a pundit for BT Sport, Chris Hargreaves will be the man in the dugout as the TV cameras are shone on his Yeovil Town team.

Looking to start the season on the right foot, the Glovers are looking for their first opening day victory since relegation to the National League.

Chris Hargreaves’ thoughts

Reflecting on the final week of pre-season; “It’s been really good, I said to the lads at the start of the week, this is the best week in football building up to the new season.

“There’s a lot of excitement and competition for places with the boys, so the dynamic does change a little bit. It’s been really good though, they’re a fantastic set of lads and I really enjoy working with them.”

Team news

The Glovers will certainly be without Tom Knowles following his departure to Walsall on Thursday evening.

Lawson D’Ath will be hopeful of being involved, after his minutes have been carefully managed in pre-season.

In this pre-match press conference, the boss mentioned there were a few players struggling with injury issues, but did not name any players specifically.

A foot in the opposition camp

After relegation from the Football League last season, Scunthorpe manager Keith Hill is looking to rebuild his squad.

The most notable signing so far is the addition of Eastleigh skipper Andrew Boyce. The experienced centre half adds much needed National League knowhow to the Scunthorpe United ranks.

Have we met before?

This will be the first meeting between the two sides since the 14/15 season. There was nothing to separate the two sides that season, with both games ending 1-1.

Town’s last victory on the road at Scunthorpe came in 2012, with a 4-0 victory thanks to a double from Gozie Ugwu, alongside goals from Reuben Reid & Keanu Marsh Brown.

It’s been over ten years since our last defeat to the Iron, coming in September 2011.
