28th August 2015

Yeovil Town are back in SkyBet League Two action this coming Saturday when the Glovers travel to face Oxford United with a 3pm kick off.

Paul Sturrock would have been delighted to get his first win of the season last Saturday and having a full week to prepare and recuperate will have done him and his squad the world of good.

Previously, a rigorous Saturday-Tuesday combination had tested an already threadbare squad to the maximum.

The win over Luton Town last weekend has hopefully sparked the season into full swing as Yeovil came from 2-0 down to win the match 3-2.

Stephen Arthurworrey not only scored the first of the comeback goals but made advancing runs to set up the other two strikes.

Ryan Bird was the grateful recipient of those assists and even referred to Arthurworrey as “Xavi” on social media.

Bird had come off the bench to make his match winning contribution and so will be hoping to start this weekend.

The injury news at Yeovil is still a concern, Wes Fogden is still missing with badly broken fingers and the long term absentees of Ben Tozer, Kevin Dawson and Simon Gillett are set for more time away from the pitch.

However, Marc Laird are edging closer to regaining fitness but we can safely suggest Saturday will come around too quickly.

Previously injured pair of Omar Sowunmi and Jack Compton have both been in squads recently with Compton’s performance on Saturday reminding everyone what kind of a squad Yeovil have when fully fit.

The on loan trio of Josh Wakefield, Connor Roberts and Harry Cornick look set to keep their places in the side despite the addition of midfielder David Norris on Non Contract terms.

Norris was on the bench at the weekend but didn’t come on to make his debut in green and white.

As for Oxford, they didn’t have the luxury of a free midweek due to their continued involvement in the Capital One Cup, they fell just short of taking Sheffield Wednesday to extra time falling 1-0 to a second half Atdhe Nuhiu goal.

Their league form has seen them pick up three draws and win so far this season, leaving them in 9th place going into the game on Saturday.

They have drawn games with Crawley, Luton and Mansfield and taken three points from another of the relegated sides, Notts County.

Keemar Roofe is the man to be watched for the U’s, not only did he score the “best goal of his career” to dump Brentford out of the Capital One cup, but he has also notched three more goals this term.

Boss Michael Appleton will have a former Glovers loanee at his disposal this weekend, John Lundstram has signed for the U’s on a permanent deal this summer.

Lundstram played for Yeovil in the Championship when he joined on loan along with then Everton team mate Shane Duffy.

Yeovil are off and running in League Two this season and Saturday’s game will be another test of just how much the side have come together in recent weeks.

The next chance to see Sturrock’s men is this coming Tuesday as the first round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy sees Yeovil take on Barnet at Huish Park CLICK HERE to buy tickets online.

Last time we met

These two sides haven’t met in a competitive fixture since an FA Cup first round game back in 2009.

Jack Midson would score the only goal of the game to secure the U’s place in the second round, lobbing a delightful finish over the stranded Richard Martin in goal.

The Glovers included on loan trio of Jon Obika, Ryan Mason and Steven Caulker in their startling line up that day.

The last league clash was just over 10 years ago in January 2005, the game ended in a similar result, a 2-1 victory for Oxford. Scott Guyett the man on target for Yeovil by way of a consolation.

The last time Yeovil won was in that same season, but back at Huish Park in early September 2004.

What a result it was too, a 6-1 Glovers thrashing was handed out with Andres Stolcers getting two, Kevin Gall finding the net all surrounding a Phil Jevons hat trick.
