Yeovil Town will be looking to build on their first home point of the SkyBet Championship season this Saturday as they host former European giants Nottingham Forest at Huish Park.
Forest travel to Somerset in fourth place four points behind the automatic promotion spots, while Yeovil are routed to the bottom of the table.
There may be 20 places between the sides, but Forest have actually failed to win four of their last six games, but they haven’t lost a league match since the end of August.
Yeovil’s form guide makes for slightly less pleasurable reading, just the three draws since the opening day victory, putting the Glovers on six points.
But a win for the hosts could see them jump out of the drop zone, with a league that tight, it’s a great chance to notch a first home victory and leap a few places up the table.
Forest are travelling to Yeovil with a couple of high profile absentees; Henri Lansbury is suspended, Danny Collins will more than likely miss out through injury and Dexter Blackstock will have to wait a week to play Yeovil as he has joined next Saturday’s opponents , Leeds, on loan.
For Yeovil; Wigan loanee Fraser Fyvie lasted no more than 20 minutes on his Glovers debut before being forced off with an injury. Fyvie has returned to Wigan for treatment and will miss a couple of weeks.
However, it is hoped that Joe Ralls could be back in contention after missing out last week, and could be a like for like swap.
Elsewhere, it’s hoped that the strikers have found their goal scoring boots again after another midweek demolition of a non-league side.
Yeovil went to Dorchester and won 6-0; an Andy Williams hat trick was supplemented by goals from Joel Grant, Paddy Madden and Sam Foley in the friendly.
The match also served as a fitness test for both Liam Fontaine and Kieffer Moore who had both suffered knocks and niggles forcing them to miss recent fixtures, both were unused substitutes on Saturday and came through the midweek match unscathed.
Looking back at fixtures between Yeovil and their opponents has thrown up some ties where there is little or nothing to talk about, but this isn’t the case between Yeovil and Forest.
Over 9000 people packed inside Huish Park to see the first meeting of the sides in 2005 and they were treated to a 3-0 Glovers win, Phil Jevons (2) and Arron Davies on target.
In the reverse fixture Jevons was again on the score sheet but this time in a 2-1 defeat. During the 06/07 season, two 1-0 victories in the league for Forest were hanging over the Glovers as the sides met in the League One play-offs, the 2-0 first leg victory for Forest could have put the tie to bed.
But, what happened on the night of 18th May 2007 will live long in the memory of Glovers fans. Arron Davies was the star of the show as Yeovil overturned that 2-0 deficit, taking the hosts into extra time before winning the game 5-2 on the night, 5-4 on aggregate.
A stunning victory that took Yeovil to Wembley, with every Glovers fan having the images of Marcus Stewart nodding home a late equaliser and the post-match celebrations cemented in their memory bank for ever.
That summer, following Yeovil’s failure at Wembley, Chris Cohen and Arron Davies swapped Somerset for the side of the river Trent and helped their new team secure promotion from League One.
Just as it was a year before, Yeovil were the opponents in the definitive match, this time it was a 3-2 win for Forest on the final day of the season.
Chris Cohen is still at the City Ground as club captain and will no doubt receive a fantastic reception as he leads out Nottingham Forest this Saturday.
The Forest squad also includes former Yeovil loanee Simon Gillett. The visitors have sold out their away allocation but there are still seats available for home fans, as always the advice is to book early, another bumper crowd and fantastic atmosphere is predicted and you don’t want to miss out on that. The ticket office can be contacted on 01935 847888 or you can use YTFC.net.
Famous Fans – Who might you bump into waiting for a hotdog?
Aussie Cricket Tormenter, Stuart Broad. People Puncher, Carl Froch. Ball Putter, Lee Westwood. As well as actors Su Pollard and Jason Statham and possibly most bizarrely, Brazilian Football Manager Luiz Felipe Scolari declared his love for Forest after their European cup run under Brian Clough.
A Foot in Both Camps – Who have represented both sides?
Arron Davies, Chris Cohen, Simon Gillett, Colin Addison, Steve Collis… and I guess Alan Wright did score for Yeovil, technically.
