Yeovil Town’s pre-season preparations continue with a trip to Dorset to face Dorchester Town on Tuesday evening.

After a combative performance against League One side Plymouth, the onus will be on Chris Hargreaves’ side to set the tempo.

Kick-off is at the earlier time of 7pm, so please ensure you leave with plenty of time to get to the Avenue Stadium.

Chris Hargreaves’ thoughts

Looking ahead to the fixture, Hargreaves said; “They‘ve used a lot of energy today (against Plymouth), but that’s what happens during the season. They’ll be coming back from a long journey in the main and then having to prepare again and do it right.

“It’s a different focus for us on a different surface. We have to make sure we recover properly because we put in an absolute shift, there’s no doubt about it.”

Team news

Lawson D’Ath was warming up with his teammates before Saturday’s game against Plymouth, but wasn’t quite fit enough to make a cameo appearance from the bench. In his post-match interview, Hargreaves noted the midfielder was around ‘one week’ away, so it’s unlikely he’ll be seen on the pitch at the Avenue Stadium.

After his red card, Matt Worthington will not be available, but rest assured, he’ll be able to play against Scunthorpe when the National League kicks off.

With Tuesday’s game being the first Saturday/Tuesday turnaround, we could see some rotation to manage the players’ minutes before the National League kick-off.

A foot in the opposition camp

It was a difficult start to pre-season for Dorchester, who fell to defeats in the first two pre-season games against AFC Portchester and Sholing.

Growing in confidence, Dorchester were the victors in their most recent game, beating Wessex League Premier side Hamworthy United, 3-1 at the Avenue.

The fixture against the Glovers is going to be a step up for Dorchester, with assistant manager James Wood commenting; “It’s going to be intense, they are a high quality outfit and we realise we are going to have long periods without the ball.

Have we met before?

A trip to Dorchester Town has been a regular fixture of our pre-season schedule for a number of years. Although, last season there Glovers did not travel to the Avenue.

Our most recent trip came in 2020, as goals from then Aston Villa loanee Jack Clarke and Carl Dickinson scored for Yeovil.

Some fans may remember the club spent a short period playing home games at the Avenue Stadium. This was due to work on the Huish Park pitch and it not being ready for the start of the league season.
