26th February 2016

Yeovil Town are back in SkyBet League Two action this coming Saturday when the Glovers travel to bottom side Dagenham and Redbrigde.

The game pits the side in 24th against the side in 22nd so you may well hear the phrase “six pointer” and “relegation dog fight” thrown about in the build up.

Yeovil have been in good form of late with a pair of home games against two promotion chasers ending in two well earned points.

Neither Portsmouth nor Plymouth could get past a stern Glovers defence with the attacking qualities of the front men looking dangerous against some of the stingiest defences in the division.

In fact, the 0-0 midweek draw with Plymouth was the first time Yeovil had failed to score in 2016 and the statistics don’t end their.

Darren Way’s side are unbeaten at home since mid November and they currently sit 12th in the form table after an impressive run of form.

Some of the numbers make less than impressive reading for a Dagenham fan however, bottom of the Football League, the Daggers haven’t won a home League Match since April when they trounced Accrington 4-0.

This season, they have only notched up four points on their own pitch, four draws against Stevenage, Newport, Notts County and most recently, Plymouth back in November.

In terms of team news, Yeovil are still sweating on the fitness of a couple players with Jack Compton missing the last two games and a couple others like Kevin Dawson and Wes Fogden being out for a little longer.

This game will also represent the last one that Nathan Smith will miss through suspension.

Dagenham go into the game with a goalscorer still hitting the net on a regular basis in 41 year old Jamie Cureton.

Daggers weren’t overly active during the transfer window, but did sign Reading Under 21s defender Dom Hyam, he replaced Kane Ferdinand who left the club when the midfielder’s contract expired.

In the build up to their defeat to Mansfield, Dagenham reported that they would be without Luke Gutteridge (injury) and Harry Hickford (loan expired).

Glovers’ manager Darren Way has praised the Yeovil support for their impact in both recent home games and that support needs to continue through Saturday and onto Accrington this Tuesday.

It’s a vital game and with York and Hartlepool facing tough games against Luton and Northampton respectively, Yeovil could find themselves another place higher and as much as nine points above at least one side in the drop zone.

For those looking for their next taste of action at fortress Huish Park can buy tickets for Accrington (Tuesday 1st March) as well as all the other home games between now and the end of the season.

Last time we met

Earlier this season, The Glovers came from 2-0 down to salvage a point at Huish Park.

Kane Ferdinand and Frankie Raymond put Yeovil on the back foot early on but a couple of second half goals from Ryan Bird and Jakub Sokolik snatched a point from the jaws of defeat.

Before this seaon, the last time the two sides met was back during the 2010/11 season, neither result went the way of the Glovers.

Down at Victoria Road, Oli Johnson scored the only Glovers goal in a 2-1 defeat, it was a late Jon Nurse goal that had sealed the points despite Yeovil’s best efforts to firstly level the game, but try and go and win it.

Back at Huish Park, the result was even worse, the Glovers were once again only able to score a single goal in a defeat – this time, 3-1.

Andy Williams had equalised on the stroke of half time, but a trio of goals from Will Antwi, Abu Agogo and Medy Elito sealed the points for the travelling Daggers.

Prior to that, the only meetings were in non-league, with the final one in the Conference being a heavy Glovers win.

Kevin Gall and a Kirk Jackson hat trick settled the game in a 4-0 win during the Conference winning season.
