20th October 2016
The Glovers come into the match having won four of their last six League Two matches, including three consecutive home victories at Huish Park.
A tally of 12 points from a maximum of 18 sees Town sit fourth in the current form table, translating to 15th in the league standings just three points off of the play-offs.
Yeovil come into the match off the back of two 1-0 wins at Huish Park, seeing off Wycombe Wanderers and Newport County in consecutive weeks.
Meanwhile, Crewe return to Gresty Road for the first time since the start of October having spent the last two league matches on the road. Steve Davis’ side are without a league win in the last five matches however, drawing on four occasions and losing once.
Having drawn their last three matches, the Railwaymen have slid slightly down the table to eighth, lying outside of the play-offs on goal difference.
Despite their slight wobble, Alexandra are unbeaten at home this season claiming victories against Doncaster Rovers and Exeter City, whilst sharing the spoils with Blackpool and Mansfield Town.
Crewe also have two familiar faces for Yeovil supporters, with defender Ben Nugent – who played 23 times for Town during the 2014/15 season – and Zoumana Bakayogo – who enjoyed just a single appearance for the Glovers in 2014 – both contracted at the Cheshire club.
Head-to-head
Having met competitively on 10 occasions, Yeovil edge the head-to-head battle with five wins to Crewe’s four.
The Railwaymen are unbeaten in the last two meetings between the two clubs, drawing 1-1 at Huish Park in 2014 before claiming a 1-0 win at home thanks to a Nicky Ajose strike in the reverse fixture.
Town’s last win against Crewe came in April 2013 when Joe Edwards’ strike inside the first minute was enough to earn victory at Huish Park, having already won the reverse fixture by the same scoreline courtesy of a Byron Webster goal.
Glovers manager Darren Way scored the winning goal between the two sides in October 2008 with a late strike, as the Somerset outfit won 3-2 thanks to goals from Way and Danny Schofield (x2).
Despite Saturday’s fixture being the eleventh meeting between the two sides, it will be the first to be competed at League Two level, with all 10 existing matches featuring in League One.
Referee
Christopher Starginson (Staffordshire) will be the man in the middle for Saturday’s match at Gresty Road.
The fixture will be Mr. Starginson’s 12th game of the season, having so far awarded 34 yellow and two red cards. Most recently he was in action in midweek for the Checkatrade Trophy meeting between Exeter City and Chelsea Under-23’s where he awarded four yellow cards.
Mr. Starginson took charge of a Yeovil match on two occasions last season, officiating the 3-2 loss at home to Cambridge United (awarding four yellow cards) and the 1-0 win against Stevenage in the FA Cup (awarding two yellow cards) in what was Way’s first game in interim charge of the Glovers.
On Saturday Mr. Starginson will be assisted by Natalie Aspinall (Lancashire) and Wade Smith (Cheshire) with Paul Marsden (Lancashire) taking on the role of fourth official.
