28th September 2015

Yeovil Town are back in SkyBet League Two action this coming Tuesday when the Glovers make the long trip to Accrington Stanley with a 7:45 kick off.

Paul Sturrock’s side are struggling to find some consistent form after following up an impressive win over Crawley with a tough loss to Hartlepool Unite this past Saturday.

Ryan Bird had scored for the Glovers – his fourth league goal of the season – but Pools had hit back for the win.

The result put the form figures for September a little bit all over the place, two wins two losses and a draw.

A winning result this coming Tuesday would finish the month off on a positive note going into a very busy September.

As for the hosts, Accrington are in flying form – only Portsmouth have won more points over the past eight games.

They currently lie 5th in the table following a convincing 3-0 win over Crawley on Saturday.

Stanley are unbeaten in the league since mid-August beating the likes of Bristol Rovers, Exeter and Mansfield as well as going to Portsmouth and Notts County and coming away with a point.

Their danger man this season has been Josh Windass, the influential front man has five goals already this campaign but he also has assists to his name for many more of his colleague’s goals as well.

Being the son of Hull City legend Dean has not affected the striker who seems destined to follow in his father’s footsteps in the game.

The injury news from Stanley is that defender Tom Davies missed out at the weekend with a knee injury while Dean Winnard was forced off after just 25 minutes of the game leaving the team slightly light in defensive cover.

There are two familiar faces in the Accrington squad for Yeovil fans, Anthony Barry was on the bench this past weekend and could make an appearance against the club he represented at Wembley in 2007.

Secondly, Adam Morgan, the former Liverpool striker, has joined Stanley but has only played three times this season, twice from the bench in the league as well as starting in the JPT.

For Yeovil, the team news is starting to look a little bit more positive.

Josh Wakefield has returned to Bournemouth to free up a space in the squad for a new loanee. That was filled almost immediately with a return for Swansea midfielder Josh Sheehan who spent the second half of last season on loan at Huish Park.

Elsewhere, striker Shaun Jeffers has served his three match ban and is now available for selection, it is also hoped that there could be place in the squad for one of the injured party.

Saturday looks like a more likely target for some of the team to return but never say never for this coming Tuesday.

Ollie Bassett and Max Melanson could once again feature in the squad as the two members of the under 18 side are used to add depth to the team sheet.

Paul Sturrock’s men head into the busy month of October with light at the end of the injury tunnel, you can support the team away at the Wham Stadium this Tuesday.

The next home game is the second round JPT game on Tuesday 6th October vs Coventry – tickets for that game can be purchased HERE.

Last time we met

Despite the two sides being in different divisions last season, they actually met twice.

The 2nd round of the FA Cup drew the two sides together with the first tie taking place up at the Wham Stadium.

The game ended in a 1-1 draw with loanee Jordan Clarke scoring the Glovers goal.

Tom Aldred scored in the second half to force a replay 10 days later at Huish Park.

In between games the draw for the third round was made and gave the clubs the motivation in the form of a home game against Manchester United for the winner.

On a cold Tuesday night at Huish Park, a scrappy game looked set to go the entire distance before two moments of quality from Simon Gillett and Kieffer Moore put the game beyond the travelling side.

Yeovil went on to face United and pushed the Premier League giants far into the second half of the game.
