Yeovil Town Football Club (YTFC), Yeovil Town Holdings Limited (YTHL) and the Yeovil Town Community Sports Trust (YTCST) are pleased to announce the latest developments in their collaboration plans to bring improved community sports and health and well-being facilities to the South Somerset area via their proposed site in Lufton.

A planning application has already been submitted to South Somerset District Council (SSDC) and some amendments are now being proposed as a result of discussions with the SSDC departments and Sport England.

Changes to the application submission include the provision of a second football pitch and an increase in size of the proposed pavilion to accommodate four changing rooms.  Both changes are at the request of SSDC and Sport England.

Stephen Allinson, Chairman of the Community Sports Trust said: “The proposals will facilitate an expansion of our community related opportunities at a base convenient to the Yeovil area.  One of our aims is to use sport activities to promote social responsibility, give support to those in need so that they have respect for their community and encourage people to make a positive contribution to society”.

David Bell, Agent for the planning application, said “Recent discussions have added value from a community perspective.  I am pleased that in these times of local government and public body funding austerity we have put together a proposal that will strengthen local facilities and the Trust.  The Trust is run for the benefit of the community, self-supporting and not a publicly funded body”.

When asked about why these facilities are not proposed at the Huish Park Stadium site, David commented that “The football and cricket pitches along with ancillary facilities such as a pavilion will not fit within the Huish Park available footprint without removing most of the main car park.  Clearly, that is not a viable option
