3rd September 2015

Hello again everyone. Can you believe we are already a month into the season? I certainly can’t and it has already been a rollercoaster being a Yeovil Town fan. We don’t like to make things easy and this new division has been anything but.

Paul Sturrock made an emotive statement after the disappointment of the performance at Oxford. It was extremely frustrating as we should have been high on confidence after our impressive win against Luton. However, we actually looked scared of committing to tackles and were pushed off the ball far too easily.

Our manager is giving everything to turn this around and we have shown moments of brilliance that leave me a lot less concerned than this time last season.

It was nice to see us get a second successive home win under our belts. I know it was not a classic and a comical own goal ultimately sealed the win but we finally defended well throughout and Artur Krysiak finally got a well-deserved clean sheet.

I am already excited for our trip to Wembley – nothing like planning ahead eh?!

In other football news, transfer deadline day may not have lived up to the hype but the top four tiers of English football are not disappointing.

Chelsea continued their stuttering start to the season with a rare home defeat in Jose Mourinho’s 100th home game in charge. Stamford Bridge was left stunned by an ever improving Crystal Palace.

Radamel Falcao’s first goal for his new club was not enough to see off Palace who secured a deserved three points with goals from Bakary Sako and Joel Ward.

In the Championship, Wolves left it late to secure a 2- 1 win against in form Charlton. Adam Le Fondre struck on 85 minutes to seal a first home win and abruptly halted the Addicks unbeaten start to the season.

League One also boasted entertaining matches including a battle between Colchester United and Scunthorpe United and two former Glovers.

Joe Edwards only managed 46 minutes for the home side but former striker Paddy Madden continued his good start to the campaign scoring his fourth goal of the season to put the Iron in cruise control. But Colchester battled back and secured a hard-earned draw. However, they are still on the lookout for those elusive first three points.

The fourth tier has also started well with Leyton Orient setting the pace at the top. They maintained their 100% record, in the league, against Bristol Rovers who have also had a brilliant start. A comfortable 2-0 win for the O’s showed the rest of the league that they are very much on course to make an immediate return to League One.

Villain of the week

I thought this weeks “villain” had to be whoever was in charge of the paperwork for David De Gea’s move to Real Madrid on Tuesday.

The deal dramatically collapsed on deadline day due to a malfunction from one, or both, of the clubs. Both have denied any lack of organisation and it is difficult to know exactly what went wrong.

However, Manchester United fans will be delighted that their world class stopper remains at Old Trafford.

Whether he will return to the starting 11 after the international break is still up for debate but a goalkeeper of his calibre should not be left on the bench!

Hero of the week

Stephen O’Donnell slotted home a last minute winner against in form Leyton Orient in the JPT on Tuesday.

The Hatters have been on the wrong end of 90th minute goals three times already this season so the win must have felt all the sweeter.

It was Orient’s first defeat of the campaign, whereas Luton continue remarkable cup form but are yet to emulate it in the league.

So, next up we host Morecambe at Huish Park. No doubt this will be a hard task but having won the last two games on our own patch, there is no reason why we cannot be optimistic.

We have now kept our first clean sheet and I am sure Artur will not want anyone to get past him anytime soon.

So let’s get behind the boys and the gaffer and enjoy another successful home match.

Our favourite place deserves to be a fortress.
