MATCH PREVIEW | Yeovil Town - Notts County

Look ahead to Tuesday's clash

22 March 2021

Yeovil Town host Notts County for the second of back-to-back fixtures against the Magpies.

On Saturday, Darren Sarll’s side came off second best with Notts County claiming three points at Meadow Lane thanks to goals from Jake Reeves and Jordan Barnett.

With an opportunity for redemption, the Glovers will be hungry to right Saturday’s wrong on Tuesday evening (7:45pm).

Darren Sarll’s thoughts

Following Saturday’s defeat, Sarll spoke to ytfc.net to reflect on the game.

“I thought we were rubbish, but I also have to give credit to the opponent. The midfield three dominated the middle third, and that meant they had that little more quality than we did, especially in possession.

“That being said, I thought we chased, I thought we tackled, we harried, and the centre halves played very well. We have been beaten by a very good free-kick and a long-range effort, that technical execution highlighted the difference today.

“Ultimately though, I thought we were toothless and didn’t work the goalkeeper in any way.”

Injury news

Speaking to the BBC following the conclusion of Saturday’s game, Sarll confirmed that Alex Bradley and Charlie Lee suffered injuries that kept them out the side.

Emmanuel Sonupe will return to first team training after a long injury lay-off, but Tuesday’s clash may come too soon for the 25-year-old.

Northampton Town loanee Matt Warburton picked up an injury during Friday’s training session which kept him out the squad on Saturday, but Sarll confirmed the dynamic midfielder is still very much in his plans after sitting out of the eight matches; “Matt’s always been in the plans, he’s just been pushed back out by some really surprising performances in January and February where (Tom) Knowles and (Josh) Neufville really came to the fore, having Reuben in the squad too it knocked him out.

“However, now these are the moments where players come back in and hopefully, they stay in.”

Rhys Murphy is unlikely to be involved after his hamstring injury in Saturday's game.

A foot in the opposition camp

A club steeped in history and football heritage. Notts County FC is officially the oldest professional football club on the planet. The club finished third in the National League last season following the curtail of the season, where they lost out in the final to Harrogate Town at Wembley, losing 3-1. This has not affected them this season, the Magpies currently sit sixth in the National League, with impressive victories against Wealdstone, Sutton, and Woking to name a few. They come to Huish Park having picked up seven points from their last nine available, including a victory over the Glovers on Saturday.
