MATCH PREVIEW | Barnet - Yeovil Town

Town travel to the Hive

1 March 2021

After two postponements, Yeovil Town finally travel to the Hive to face Barnet on Tuesday evening (7:45pm).

The Glovers come into the game, full of confidence after a strong run of recent form, picking up 12 points from the last five games.

However, the story couldn’t be more different for Barnet, who have just three victories in the National League all season.

Darren Sarll’s thoughts

Speaking after Yeovil Town’s victory over Dagenham & Redbridge, Sarll said; “One thing we always reiterate as a group, is when we’ve got a goalkeeper on form, and our forward too we’ve got a hell of a chance, no matter if we play well or not.

“I thought Adam (Smith), was magnificent today (Saturday), he’s an absolute lunatic! He played very well, and his kicking is getting better too, it’s much more consistent.

“The shape of the side is getting much more consistent, and that coincides with our upturn.”

Team news

After a strong run of form, it will be a difficult task for any returning players to displace any of Saturday’s starters, as noted by Sarll in his post-match press conference in choosing Jimmy Smith in the holding role once again.

However, on Saturday Matt Worthington was replaced by the eventual match winner Tom Knowles after taking a knock.

In last week’s press conference, Sarll confirmed Luke Wilkinson was to see a specialist on Monday, and if all is right, the commanding centre half can step up his road to recovery.

Previous meetings

Our last clash with Barnet was one to forget for Yeovil fans, losing 2-0 in last season’s play-offs. Despite largely dominating the game, Yeovil’s season came to an end on a warm afternoon at Huish Park.

Despite only moving to the Hive in 2013, Yeovil have had some memorable trips to North-West London, the most notable came in April 2016 as Harry Cornick’s last gasp winner completed a 3-4 turnaround in a League Two clash.

A foot in the opposition camp

After reaching the play-off semi-finals last season, the Bees have slid down the table to the once relegation zone, replacing manager Peter Beadle in December with former Solihull Moor boss Tim Flowers.

Despite a good record with the Moors, Flowers will have hoped to have had more of an impact so far, guiding the Bees to just one win since taking over.

The man to look out for in orange is Anthony Wordsworth, after a successful career in the EFL with the likes of Colchester, Ipswich and Southend, Wordsworth has ventured into the National League to help guide Barnet out of trouble.
