MATCH PREVIEW | Stockport County - Yeovil Town

Look ahead to Saturday's trip to Stockport

5 February 2021

Yeovil Town travel to Edgeley Park for the second time this season to face Stockport County in National League action (5:20pm).

After an enthralling affair in the FA Cup which saw the Hatters edge Yeovil out in extra time, Darren Sarll’s side will be looking to exact some revenge in front of the BT Sport cameras on Saturday.

The Glovers won’t be short of confidence either, winning five out of their last seven league games, most recently beating Dover 3-1 at Huish Park thanks to a Joe Quigley double and Rhys Murphy’s second half strike.

Darren Sarll’s thoughts

In his weekly press conference, Sarll described Saturday’s hosts as a “different” challenge after recently sacking manager Jim Gannon.

“They’re a highly resourceful club with an expensively assembled squad, which often counts for nothing as Sutton showed on Tuesday night.

“It’s a group of solid men, when you walk down the tunnel at Stockport, especially this group, it’s a big group of men. There aren’t many learners and projects in the team either, they’re all established and they pay for that.”

Team news

Yeovil Town will certainly be without Josh Staunton, Luke Wilkinson, Lawson D’Ath and Emmanuel Sonupe who are all injured for Saturday’s game.

The fixture provides a return opportunity for Carl Dickinson who was suspended for last weekend’s fixture against Dover Athletic.

A foot in the opposition camp

After recently parting company with Gannon, there’s a a new man in the Stockport dugout in the form of former Brighton coach Simon Rusk.

Adjusting to life in the National League has led to mixed results for Rusk, most recently falling to a defeat to Sutton United.

The star man for County is John Rooney, after a spectacular season with Barrow last time out, the Hatters spent big in the Summer to bring the attacking midfielder to Edgeley Park and ignite their promotion push.

This week, Rusk was able to make an impact on the squad himself, confirming the signing of former Brighton youth player Will Collar after a spell in the SPL with Hamilton Academical.
