MATCH REPORT Yeovil Town U18's 1-5 AFC Bournemouth

Glovers come up short against high flying Cherries

19 October 2020

Yeovil Town U18’s welcomed table topping AFC Bournemouth U18’s to Alvington in search of a much needed first win of the season.

The visitors set the tone early with some fine interplay and attacking football, sounding a warning of what was to come with an early goal disallowed for offside.  Glovers keeper Nasta made a fantastic acrobatic save on 15 minutes as the one-way traffic continued.

The opening goal came in the 25th minute, following excellent distribution and a slick move down the left, with a side footed finish from Burchall 0-1.

Minutes from the restart Yeovil fell further behind as Bournemouth attacked through the middle allowing Pollock to slot the ball home 0-2.  The Cherries were spraying passes at will and Nesta was called upon to make another excellent save to keep the score down.

Yeovil’s plight got harder when Famy was forced off injured in the 33rd minute with Shock coming on in replacement.

Following a brief spell of Yeovil pressure and a half chance for Shock who was blocked on the edge of the box, Bournemouth broke at pace and a fierce shot from Adams and resulting deflection gave the keeper no chance with a 0-3 scoreline at the break.

Yeovil began the second half in feisty fashion seeing two early bookings for Aborra and Medrano as they sought to put Bournemouth off their stride. The Cherries continued to press, and it took a brave save by Nasta at the feet of Pollock to keep it at 0-3.

Bournemouth began to shake things up, making a series of changes on the hour mark. It was not long after that the Glovers got an opportunity for a foothold in the game when the tireless Lloyd was cynically pulled down in the box with Hughes confidently dispatching the resulting penalty, 1-3.

Buoyed on by the goal, Lloyd made a driving run toward goal and saw his shot well saved by the keeper. The midfield began to press and assert themselves more into the game as Lloyd and Stock combined to fashion another half chance.

As the game entered the final 10 minutes inevitably it was the Cherries who pressed home their advantage; Adams on hand to side foot home after an initial shot from Burgess was parried 1-4. In the dying moments Burchall ran at the heart of the home defence and fired his shot into the net to make it a final score of 1-5.

Bournemouth are clearly the team to beat in the Youth Alliance South West Division and Yeovil will be hoping to make up ground when they entertain Cheltenham at home on 24th October.

However, you can support the Young Glovers in their next fixture as they face Wimborne Town in FA Youth Cup action at Huish Park on Tuesday evening, with tickets available here.
