INTERVIEW | Warburton reflects on Halifax draw

Northampton loanee Warburton felt Yeovil deserved more from the game

14 October 2020

Matt Warburton believes Yeovil Town’s first win of the season is just around the corner after the Glovers were held from home against FC Halifax Town.

An early goal from the hosts Jeff King was cancelled out by a second-half strike from Courtney Duffus, in an entertaining game at the Shay Stadium.

Town are still searching for their first win of the National League season after three draws and one loss from the opening four games. Warburton was left frustrated not to take all three points from Tuesday night’s affair despite a dominant Glovers performance

“It was a disappointing eveningeveryone's gone into the dressing room disappointed not to take all three points, said the forward.

“For large portions of the game we dominated the ball, but we didn’t just have that cutting edge to finish them off tonight.

“To be honest I'm disappointed personally as I felt I should have scored about 10 minutes before the end, but in fairness the goalkeeper has made a great save.

“It was just frustrating coming in knowing that we should have taken all 3 points."

The draw still leaves the Glovers in the bottom half of the table, but Warburton believes that if he and his players can maintain their good performance again then a win won’t be far away

“I wasn’t involved in the first couple of games, but I can see that we are getting stronger as a group, he added.

The gaffer was delighted with the performance and he was coming out with the mentality that we had won the game rather than drawing it.

It’s a tough place to come, and I think tonight was full testament to the group and credit to the lads who put a great shift in.

Like I said earlier coming into the dressing room after game, everyone was disappointed and gutted that we didn’t win the game which just shows how high the lads set their standards.

“We know we are capable of much more and that win should be right around the corner."
