INTERVIEW | "I love the romance of this competition" - Darren Sarll

The gaffer can't wait to be back in FA Cup action

23 October 2020

Darren Sarll discussed a number of topics during his pre-match press conference ahead of this weekend’s Emirates FA Cup clash with Dover Athletic.

The Glovers kick off their FA Cup campaign on Saturday afternoon at Huish Park as the oldest domestic cup competition in world football returns to the calendar

With Yeovil entering the Fourth Qualifying Round stage this season, Sarll has outlined his ambition and love for the competition and much more.

Read on for his thoughts on the game…

On how far Yeovil can go in the FA Cup this season...

"Obviously, every team wants to draw the biggest teams and go as far as possible in the competition, but I think if we maintain the performances that I've seen over the last couple of games then I can’t see why not we can challenge that.

"The more we’ve gone this season we’ve looked like a new side in terms of the structure and signings we’ve made. We are striving each week to be the best team possible. We’ve just carried on plodding away and we have certainly worked really hard this week in order to have a positive outcome on Saturday.

"We’ve had a really good week of training with some parts of week focusing on recovery and the rest on intense training over short periods of time. I‘just really looking forward to the game and got lots of belief that we can perform the same as we have in previous games or even better."

On his love for the competition...

"I love the FA CupI’ve had the pleasure of growing up knowing how much the cup means to teams, players and managers and also knowing that FA Cup final day is the biggest day in the football calendar.

"I love the romance of the competition, the drama and everything else that comes with the magic of the cup. I’ve always cherished the memories I've had myself in the Cup and have always been proud to lead a team in such a historic competition."

On his opponents Dover Athletic...

"Any side that is managed by Andy Hessenthaler is going to see life a certain way and they will be very competitive as they always are. We don’t write anyone off, I don’t write any team off because of their form or look at where they are based in the table, I'm always expecting a tough game.

"We’ll take our necessary preparation to try and be at our very best and hopefully with the right care, focus and intensity we will be good enough to beat most teams not just Dover. I’ll take the same attitude into Saturday whether that would be against Dover or Stockport at the other end of the league.

"They are very tough games and this weekend we know exactly what we’re in for and how hard a test it’s going to be."
