Darren Sarll was pleased with his side’s performance as they secured a comfortable 3-0 victory against Aldershot Town.
After a ponderous defeat to Torquay United on Boxing Day, the Glovers responded brilliantly, sealing a much-needed win in the National League thanks to a brace from Courtney Duffus, and a late strike from Albi Skendi at Huish Park.
Speaking to BBC Somerset post-match, he said: “Today what I wanted to eradicate was that doubt within the side. After making a lot of changes, I thought we needed that extra bit of experience, bringing in players who understood their roles and responsibilities a bit more, which I thought paid off in end.
“It hasn’t been a very pleasant period for us as everyone knows but winning two of our last three games is something to get behind. It’s a clean sheet, 3 good goals and we’ve kind of said sorry for that performance just 48 hours ago.
“We’ve now got a big chance to take revenge on that in the return fixture this weekend, which now after today I'm very confident about and much looking forward too."
Courtney Duffus returned to the side and took off where he left adding more goals to his tally this season, finishing well past Brad James on both occasions, and Sarll was left delighted to his forward back and firing in a green and white shirt once again.
“He’s still not fully fit after his isolation period, but it was great to see him back out there today. I thought both him and Joe were very dominant, and it was important to see that their mentality sort of matched their physical stature which I haven’t seen enough this season.
“Courtney, Quickley, and Skendi are all individuals that I try and base the team around, so I was really pleased with their performances today. We know where we are and are disappointed in our recent performances because we know we’ve got that quality and spirit within the group. Some people may disagree on that which is understandable, but we’ve got a real good togetherness and it was great to see that come back into fruition today."
