Luke Wilkinson enjoyed a dream first home start as he netted the decisive goal in the Glovers’ 3-1 victory over Notts County.

After struggling with injury across much of pre-season and missing the opening six matches of the campaign, the defender has returned to the fold and made a real impact.

Completing 90 minutes in the last two matches, the 28-year-old played a pivotal role in securing all three points for the green and whites at Huish Park.

Speaking to YTTV, the defender said: "It’s a dream start. It was my full home debut and a great feeling to get three points.

"I’m delighted with the goal. If I can chip in with a few goals that would be perfect, but the three points is always the main thing alongside a good performance.

"Charlie (Lee) set me up quite a few times like that at Stevenage. Everyone underestimates him because he’s a small guy, but he can get up really well and I’m lucky the ball fell to me."

The victory ended a run of three straight defeats for Darren Sarll's side and gets things back on track.

Despite the squad being filled with new faces, Wilkinson being one of them, the defender highlighted the cohesion and work rate within the squad.

"We’re a new group of lads and it’s going to take us time to all gel together. We work tirelessly on the training pitch because we want to do as well as we can for this football club.

"We had to dig in at times, they’re not a bad team at all. We showed that fight that the fans want to see and that’s exactly what the manager asks of us."
