INTERVIEW | Grant feels settled at Town already

Young defender comfortable at Huish Park

Town's latest defensive addition Josh Grant feels settled with the squad already in Somerset

The Chelsea academy product made his senior debut in the 1-0 win at Mansfield last weekend, completing 90 minutes for Darren Way's side.

Jordan Green's first-half strike was enough to secure victory with the 20-year-old impressing on his first outing.

Ready to enjoy his first taste of professional first-team football at Huish Park, Grant is already feeling settled with his fellow teammates.

“It's been brilliant”, he told iFollow Glovers. “It's been different obviously coming from Chelsea but the boys have helped me settle in. It's good to get used to the group early on.

“I was willing to accept the challenge and come here, all the boys really made me realise how much we want to win and we went Mansfield and it was great to get it, it was a great performance from the boys.

“That momentum is great and training has been really good, the vibes have been really good, obviously coming in off the back of a win helps and we are going try our hardest to get three points Saturday.”

Last week's win ended a 10-game winless run for the Glovers as they lifted themselves six-point clear of bottom place Notts County.

With the Magpies visiting this weekend, the versatile defender is targeting a successful end of season run with his new side.

“The target first and foremost is for the team to start climbing the table. That’s what we want to do, that’s what the manager told us we need to try and do and that’s what we’re going to try and implement.

“For me, it’s a great chance to get some games under my belt as a professional, because Under-23s is looked upon as not the greatest, so if I can come out and learn by myself, see if I can take this challenge, that’s what I’m looking forward to.

“Last year I was mainly employed as a left back right up until March, then I went to left-side centre half, growing up I was a centre back but I think fullback is my strongest position.”
