WATCH | Stuart Nelson thanks ‘unbelievable’ fans

Nelson thankful for YOUR support

1 December 2019

Stuart Nelson was blown away by the travelling fans support on Saturday as Town drew 1-1 with Bromley thanks to Rhys Murphy’s late leveller.

The goalkeeper made a vital stop as Frankie Raymond burst through when the Glovers were trailing the Ravens.

Speaking to YTTV on the dramatic afternoon, Nelson said;

“Nothing changes for me. I love this football club; I give my all for this football club. I train as hard as I can, I look after myself off the pitch so all I’m focused on is doing everything I can for this club.

“Days like today, when I can make a save at a vital time, that’s what it’s about. I’m doing it for the team, for this club and most importantly those supporters who have travelled all the way up from Somerset.

“The crowd we had today, they were unbelievable. They didn’t stop singing the whole game, even when we went 1-0 down and down to ten men. It gives me goose bumps thinking how good they were.

“Our performances, we do it for the club, and for the fans because without them we have no club.”

With a number of key players out with injuries, Nelson’s experience has become even more vital as the season has pressed on.

“The way I take to things is to give my best when nobody is looking. One day, someone will be looking, and I will have to lead by example.

“That is the way I conduct myself on and off the pitch, doing the right things, encouraging the right people – and telling people if it’s not right at times.

“I enjoy that responsibility. Today is no different, in an ideal world it would not all fall to me and we’d have the experienced group back and out on that pitch, but when it’s not to be I’m happy to step up into that role and thrive on it.”
