Omari Patrick claps the fans PPAUK

Attacker Omari Patrick was left feeling 'grateful' after netting the winner against Grimsby Town on his Gloversdebut.

The Bradford City loanee arrived at the club on Tuesday and made an instant impact off the bench at Blundell Park.

Just over 10 minutes after being introduced the 22-year-old rifled home a superb solo effort to give the green and whites all three points and stretch the unbeaten run to five matches.

Speaking to iFollow Glovers, Patrick spoke of his debut delight: "It was always the best thing that could happen for me to score on debut. I was saying all week that I hope it happens so I'm very thankful.

"I said on the bench that either it was going to turn around at half-time or one of our attackers on the bench – because looking around at our bench was scary with a lot of pace and power - is going to hopefully bag the winner and it was myself so I'm grateful for that.

"I just had that belief in myself to take him on. I had a lot of people saying pass but I thought I had it in me to finish it off and I did, so it was good."

The three points lift Town up to fifth in Sky Bet League Two and sees them go without defeat in the league since the opening day of the season.

As Darren Way's penultimate summer addition, Patrick feels like he's quickly bought into what's happening at Huish Park.

"All the gaffer talks about is togetherness," he said. "After training, we're doing stuff together so as soon as I got here I felt part of the team, so think it shows out on the pitch.

"Everyone feels the energy, I think the fans feel the energy and feel together as a group and we're getting stronger as a unit.

"There's so much energy you have to play well for the team because the energy is there."
