INTERVIEW | Way issues squad update

Town boss gives lowdown on injuries

22 November 2018

After a two-week break for internationals, Darren Way has spoken about the fitness of his side ahead of Saturday’s trip to Macclesfield.

The Glovers are currently without Alex Fisher, Olufela Olomola, James Bailey, Jordan Green, Omar Sowunmi and Diallang Jaiyesimi, with the latter ruled out for the remainder of the season.

The international trio of Sessi D’Almeida, Rhys Browne and Enes Mahmutovic have all returned from international duty injury free and are back in training.

Experienced defender Gary Warren has overcome his injury to bring his experience into the back line.

Fisher and Olomola went off injured in the Glovers final match against Stockport County before the international break and Way has spoken on their fitness.

Speaking to iFollow Glovers he said: “We’ve got Fisher that is obviously struggling, we’ve got Olomola that we’re waiting to see how he passes through this week.

“The good news is we’ve got some experience back in our squad and that’s a must for us to push forwards and be successful.

“He (Warren) is just honest and you know, he keeps things simple, he speaks to the younger players, tells the players exactly the way it is.

“He doesn’t carry any emotion of what’s gone on the game before, and he tells the squad exactly how it is and he demands that winning feeling.”

With another experienced player returning from injury in the form of Stuart Nelson, Way is relishing competition to start in between the posts.

“A selection headache should happen at every other football club; I’ve just been a little bit unfortunate that I’ve not had it this year.

“I think Nathan’s strong enough to deal with team selection from the moment I met him in the office I would say, one of the best 19 year olds as far as personality and character that I’ve ever met.”
