PREVIEW | Grimsby Town v Yeovil Town

Glovers looking for first win on the road at Blundell Park

15 September 2017

Sam Surridge nets against Morecambe PPAUK

After back-to-back draws in Somerset, Yeovil are back on the road this weekend searching for their first away three points of the Sky Bet League Two season.

With Olufela Olomola out injured in midweek, Bournemouth loanee Sam Surridge came in for his full debut and he rewarded Darren Way for picking him with Town’s second of the game – the first league goal of his career.

Francois Zoko was also on target in the 2-2 draw against Morecambe and with Southampton hotshot Olomola expected to recover in time for the trip to Grimsby Town, Way has a positive selection headache.

Brazilian midfield Alefe Santos also started for the first time in a green and white shirt and impressed alongside versatile defender Tom James who was selected at right-back.

Darren Way's side will be gunning to become the first Yeovil side to win an EFL game at Blundell Park.

Former Glovers boss Russell Slade is in charge of Grimsby who picked up their third win on Tuesday at Accrington Stanley.

Midfielder Sam Jones is top of the Mariners’ goalscoring chart at present with three goals to his name. Yeovil fans will remember him for his performance at Blundell Park last term.

They also have the experienced Martyn Woolford at their disposal. The ex-Bristol City man scored in midweek and has played a vast amount of his career in the higher divisions.

Grimsby have lost three games at home this campaign in all competitions, drawing once in the Checkatrade Trophy.

Head-to-head
Town have faced Grimsby on four occasions in the EFL, winning just once (D1 L2).

That came in December 2004 where goals from Lee Johnson and Bartosz Tarachulski earned the Glovers a 2-1 victory.

Last term, the two teams played out a goalless draw at Huish Park before the Mariners won 4-2 at home.

Officials
Graham Horwood will be the man in the middle this weekend.

The Bedfordshire-born official has refereed five games this season, dishing out 19 yellow cards but no reds.

He officiated three Town fixtures last term – defeats to Blackpool and Portsmouth as well as the final home game of the campaign against Stevenage.

He will be assisted by Andrew Newbold (Leicestershire) and Nigel Smith (Derbyshire) with Mark Dwyer (West Yorkshire) acting as fourth official.
