Matt Worthington is ready to battle for a place in Town’s starting line-up.
The 19-year-old joined on loan from Premier League outfit AFC Bournemouth on deadline day, and made his debut in the Glovers’ 2-2 home draw with Morecambe.
It is Worthington’s only outing to date and the midfielder is looking to force his way in manager Darren Way’s thinking.
“You can never walk into a side like that and think you can walk straight into the team,” he told iFollow Glovers.
“There’s a lot of players here who are very talented and they’ve played in the league.
“There are experienced, older lads as well as young lads on loan so you’ve got to fight and work hard to get into the team.
“I wanted to come here and get some experience of men’s football. It’s more physical and a different style but it’s definitely something I want to improve, learn and adapt.”
Port Vale are the visitors to Huish Park this weekend and are winless in seven matches.
The Valiants sacked manager Michael Brown last weekend and Worthington expects a physical battle, comparable to what he has already experienced in Sky Bet League Two.
“It’ll be similar to what I’ve faced already since I’ve been here,” he said.
“I’m still trying to learn the game and how it is out there.
“They’re going to be another physical side and they’re at the bottom so they’ll want to win which makes it a tough test.”
