Tom James got on the scoresheet for the first time in his career against Plymouth Argyle in the Checkatrade Trophy and he feels it has been coming.
The Welshman was introduced as a half-time substitute alongside Otis Khan, and nodded home the winger’s pinpoint free kick in the 61st minute to equalise following Ryan Taylor’s first-half finish.
Manager Darren Way praised the impact of those who came off the bench, including Sam Surridge who netted the winner late on, and James believes the game opened up in the second period which favoured the Glovers.
“It was a good night,” he told iFollow Glovers.
“It’s a good feeling (to score). I’ve had a couple of chances in recent games so it’s good to finally get it and help the team out as well.
“I was told at half-time to go up for set pieces, try and get my head on something and thankfully it happened!”
He continued: “As soon as the team sheet came out we saw they weren’t taking the game lightly.
“The gaffer got into us a bit at half-time and the game opened up which it usually does at home because it’s a big pitch. We were just on it.
“We started playing good football, threatened in behind whenever we had the ball and passed it about.
“We had to up our game in the end, we did and we’re through.”
