Darren Way is keen for Town to progress to the second round of the Checkatrade Trophy as Group D winners.

The Glovers are currently in pole position with five points after a win at Exeter City on the road and two points gained against Chelsea Under-21s at home.

Victory or a draw, regardless of the penalty shootout outcome, over Plymouth Argyle at Huish Park on Tuesday (7.45pm) would ensure top spot and set up a home tie with AFC Wimbledon, a feat Way is eager to achieve.

“My stance on the competition is well known and Tuesday gives us the opportunity to ensure our progression to the next round,” he said.

“For me as a manager it’s an opportunity to stand on the touchline and go up against some strong teams, which Plymouth will most definitely be.

“We’ve had two very encouraging performances from our first two group stage fixtures so we want to get the job done at home.”

Way added: “We were all disappointed to leave Wycombe empty handed on Saturday but can straight away put that right.

“It’s an old cliché, but it’s good to be back on the pitch so soon after a defeat.

“Having said that, our home form has been very pleasing so confidence will be high and there’ll be no hangover from the weekend’s game.

“There’s a lot of players in our squad who are enjoying their first real taste of first team football, especially in a division as demanding as League Two.

“For them to have the chance to get on the pitch even more and get that knowledge of what it takes to win a competitive football match in a tournament like this, is only a bonus.”
