I OWE THE GAFFER A LOT - DOLAN

2 May 2017

Matty Dolan revealed he has held talks over a new deal with Town boss Darren Way.

The 24-year-old, who joined the club on an initial loan spell in 2013 before signing permanently from Bradford City two years ago, is out of contract in the summer.

Former Hartlepool United man Dolan picked up the Western Gazette player of the year award after the Glovers’ 1-1 draw with Stevenage and admits he has profited from regular game time in Somerset.

“The manager and I have had a chat and stuff like that so we’ll take it from there and see where it goes,” he told YTFC.net.

“I’ve played continuously under the manager and I owe him a lot of credit for picking me.

“I needed it (regular football). I didn’t play at Bradford - they were a massive club who I’d never say a bad word about but I’ve come here and played.

“As a footballer when you’re playing you’re always in the shop window and as selfish as it sounds you need to be. I’ve got my head down, played games and I’ve benefitted massively from that.”

He continued: “I’ve loved my time here - I’ve got a lot of friends down here and a lot of time for the area.

“Me and the Mrs are down here; got a little dog and a little cottage in a village. My parents love it here when they make the six-and-a-half hour trip.

“I’m converted but we’ll see what happens in the summer.

“I’ve been happy with my performances this season so we’ll sit down, sort out next year hopefully and see where we go from there.”
